About the role

As a Principal System Administrator at RTX (the world’s largest aerospace and defense company), you will collaborate with multiple teams to develop, implement, and maintain secure, cost-efficient classified-information-system environments. You will guide program teams in defining computing requirements and delivering end-to-end solutions for complex IT infrastructure challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Principal Systems Administrator for Windows and Linux enterprise environments, including implementation, maintenance, patching, and troubleshooting of Windows Server, Windows 11, RHEL 7/8/9, and virtualized infrastructure in a large-scale, mission-critical setting.
  • Perform Windows and Linux patching, vulnerability remediation, and compliance activities (STIG/EVAL STIG implementation, SCAP/ACAS support, log collection) in close coordination with Cyber Security teams to maintain continuous DoD and regulatory compliance.
  • Deploy and maintain VMware ESXi/vCenter virtual infrastructure, including VM lifecycle management, host upgrades, performance tuning, and support of critical production workloads.
  • Administer and support core Windows services and integrations: Active Directory, Group Policy, secure system configurations, certificate-based authentication, and customized user environments.
  • Collaborate across Digital Technology, Engineering, Cyber Security, DevSecOps, Networking, Storage, and Tools teams to resolve complex infrastructure, integration, and compliance challenges with minimal oversight.
  • Support planned and emergent operational needs in a fully on-site DoD closed-area environment; occasional after-hours support and up to 10 % travel may be required.
  • Obtain DoDD 8140/8570 baseline certification (CompTIA Security+ or equivalent) within six months of start date.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Active and transferable U.S. government-issued DoD Top Secret (TS/SCI) security clearance required prior to start; U.S. citizenship is mandatory.
  • Experience administering and securing Windows and RHEL servers.
  • Experience with VMware virtualization.
  • Experience with system hardening and secure configurations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience as a primary point of contact for patching, vulnerability remediation, or compliance initiatives.
  • Experience with enterprise Windows services: Active Directory, Group Policy, and identity integration.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity and compliance tooling: SCAP, Splunk, STIG Viewer, and audit support processes.
  • Experience supporting or integrating with DevSecOps environments.

Pay

The salary range for this role is 86,800 USD – 165,200 USD. The range is a good-faith estimate representative of all experience levels; RTX considers role, function, responsibilities, work experience, location, education/training, and key skills when extending an offer.

Schedule

  • 100 % on-site.
  • Up to 5 % travel.
  • Occasional after-hours support may be required.
