The Unified Communications team at Motorola Solutions is a global leader in public safety and enterprise security. We provide mission-critical communication and data solutions that help our customers make the world safer and more productive. Our team’s mission is to become the leader in creating a highly scalable software platform and communication applications for first responders and enterprise workgroups. Our solutions include mission-critical broadband Push to Talk (PTT), Mission Critical Video (MCVIDEO), Mission Critical Data (MCDATA), multimedia messaging, location-based collaboration, and interoperability with land mobile radio (LMR) systems. Products include client apps on Android, iOS, and Windows, with backend software deployable on-premises, in private data centers, or in public cloud infrastructure.

About the role

The Unified Communication team is seeking a visionary Principal AI Architect to spearhead our AI-first transformation strategy. This high-impact leadership role focuses on reimagining our product portfolio by leveraging AI as a strategic partner and assistant to solve and simplify complex customer workflows. You will be responsible for the architectural blueprint that integrates cutting-edge AI-driven solutions into production-ready enterprise systems for real-time mission-critical communications.

Responsibilities

  • Define and drive the technical strategy, architecture, and roadmap for an AI-first transformation across the Unified Communication product portfolio.
  • Serve as a strategic leader in identifying opportunities where AI can act as a partner or assistant to simplify customer workflows and enhance user experience.
  • Partner closely with AI Engineering organizations and R&D teams to identify and assess emerging AI technologies, frameworks, and platforms for application within the UC product line.
  • Lead the design and deployment of advanced AI capabilities, including natural language processing for translation, transcription, summarization, and intelligent routing.
  • Oversee the entire AI/ML lifecycle, ensuring robust MLOps, deployment, monitoring, and performance tuning in production environments.
  • Drive the selection and implementation of scalable cloud-native architectures (AWS, Azure, GCP) to support robust AI infrastructure.
  • Develop Agentic AI solutions tailored for real-time mission-critical audio, video, and data communications.
  • Design context-aware AI assistants that understand recurring situational factors and technical states to shape how end-users interact with applications.
  • Collaborate with product management and legal teams to ensure compliance with data privacy regulations and ethical AI principles.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or higher in Computer Science, AI, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum of 12 years of professional experience in software engineering, with significant experience in high-level architectural leadership for AI/ML or data-intensive systems.

Skills

  • Deep practical experience with the full lifecycle of building, deploying, and maintaining production-grade machine learning models (MLOps).
  • Strong programming skills (Python, Java, or C++) and expert proficiency in ML frameworks like TensorFlow or PyTorch.
  • Proven track record of building custom, proactive, context-aware AI assistants for enterprise applications.
  • Extensive experience in developing Agentic AI solutions for mission-critical software industries.
  • Expertise in prompt engineering and utilizing AI to analyze unstructured data for actionable insights.

Pay

Target base salary range: $148,800 - $175,600 USD. Pay within this range varies and depends on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
