About the role
The Principal Software Engineer - BM/SRM (26-216) position is essential to supporting the U.S. President, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at the strategic, regional, and operational levels. This role is located in Huntsville, AL and is part of the Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program.
Responsibilities
- Performs in-depth analysis and technical support of systems software products, including complex problem resolution, design, development, testing, operational integration, and user support.
- Develops or modifies operating systems applications, assists with design, coding, benchmark testing, debugging, and documentation of programs.
- Interfaces with other system support groups to resolve problems, set standards, and improve overall efficiency of the operating system.
- Designs, codes, tests, and implements tools for operations automation.
- Works on most phases of software systems programming applications and may require minor instruction and guidance in other phases.
Requirements
- Current, active in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application.
- A Bachelor’s Degree in a related field from an accredited university, or a Master’s degree in a related field with 3 years of relevant work experience, or 9 years of relevant work experience may be considered as an alternative to a degree.
- Experience and knowledge of software practices such as coding standards, automated testing, automated build pipelines and configuration.
- Software engineering and software development with strong Java/J2EE, C++/OO or similar language experience.
- Experience developing enterprise applications on Linux (Windows experience also desired).
- Experience with common software development and management tools such as maven, git/GitHub, nexus and Eclipse.
- Experience with agile development methodologies.
Qualifications
- Experience in command and control system application development.
- Experience with Software Integration and formal testing.
- Ability to present advanced concepts to non-software engineers, including senior program and military leaders.
- Experience with DevSecOps and/or build management.
Skills
Basic qualifications include a current, active in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application, along with 5 years of experience or a combination of a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and 3 years of relevant work experience, or a Master’s degree in a related field and 9 years of relevant work experience. Applicants must have strong Java/J2EE, C++/OO or similar language experience, and experience developing enterprise applications on Linux (Windows experience also desired). Experience with agile development methodologies and DevSecOps is preferred.
