Principal Software Engineer, Rocky Program

About the role

The Boeing Company is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to lead the Rocky program within the Space Mission Systems (SMS) Rapid Space Capabilities (RSC) portfolio. This role focuses on high-impact delivery, cross-team influence, and often hands-on development.

Responsibilities

• Oversees the design, development, and analyses of software systems.
• Partners with stakeholders to oversee the translation of software requirements and models that meet customer, operational, and performance requirements.
• Oversees software system-level analyses to identify risks, issues, and opportunities.
• Leads software teams to ensure successful code reviews aligning with requirements and standards.
• Reviews product and process alignment with project plans and industry standards.
• Researches and oversees the implementation of current and emerging software technologies, tools, and frameworks.
• This position is expected to be 100% onsite in Albuquerque, NM.

Requirements

• Active Top Secret (TS) US Security Clearance with the ability to obtain SCI eligibility post-start.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field with 10+ years of experience in foundational Computer Science knowledge and object-oriented design and software patterns.
• Experience with systems engineering or software development on space-based or ground-based systems.
• Experience with Software Engineering principles including, but not limited to Software Configuration Management, Software Architecture and Design, and Software Life Cycle Management.

Preferred Qualifications

• Principal / Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science and 14+ years of related work experience.
• 18+ years of related, relevant experience.
• 22+ years of related, relevant experience.
• Active TS/SCI U.S. Security Clearance.
• Experience with Java, C++, Python, JS frameworks, Spring Framework, Hibernate, RDBMS, MongoDB, REST, and OpenAPI.
• Experience using dependency management and automation services.
• Experience using cloud-based infrastructure.
• Familiarity with TDD, agile software development, DevSecOps, and CI/CD management.
• Experience as a Technical Lead Engineer, Software Lead, Software Architect, and/or Chief Engineer on a complex software development project/program.
• Experience with software for control systems, embedded FPGA, low latency deterministic, operator interfaces, and/or control gimbals, ground antennas, optical sensors.
