Principal Software Engineer (Python, CI/CD, AWS, API)

About the role

The Principal Software Engineer will work in the Fort Meade, MD vicinity. Position location is subject to change based on central MD client's needs.

Responsibilities

• Develops, maintains, and enhances complex and diverse software systems
• Reviews and tests software components for adherence to the design requirements and documents test results
• Solves software problem reports
• Utilizes software development and software design methodologies appropriate to the development environment
• Provides specific input to the software components of system design
• Analyzes user requirements to derive software design and performance requirements
• Debugs existing software and corrects defects
• Provides recommendations for improving documentation and software development process standards
• Designs and codes new software or modifies existing software to add new features
• Integrates existing software into new or modified systems or operating environments
• Develops simple data queries for existing or proposed databases or data repositories
• Applies knowledge of ITOM, ITSM, HRSD, CSM and/or Service Portal
• Codes with programming languages and databases including HTML, CSS, JavaScript
• Writes or reviews software and system documentation
• Serves as team lead at the level appropriate to the software development process being used on any particular project
• Designs or implements complex database or data repository interfaces/queries
• Develops or implements algorithms to meet or exceed system performance and functional standards
• Aids in developing and executing test procedures for software components
• Designs or implements complex algorithms requiring adherence to strict timing, system resource, or interface constraints
• Performs quality control on team products
• Oversees one or more software development teams and ensures the work is completed in accordance with the constraints of the software development process being used on any particular project
• Convenes with system engineers and hardware engineers to derive software requirements and to obtain information on project limitations and capabilities, performance requirements and interfaces
• Coordinates software system installation and monitors equipment functioning to ensure operational specifications are met
• Interacts with project customers and stakeholders to report project status and manage subsystems requirements
• Researches, evaluates, and assesses software tools and technologies, such as Free and Open Source Software (FOSS), Government-off-the-shelf (GOTS), Commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS), and incorporates those findings into the overall software system design
• Serves as the technical lead of multiple software development teams
• Selects the software development process in coordination with the customer and system engineering
• Recommends new technologies and processes for complex software projects
• Ensures quality control of all developed and modified software
• Delegates programming and testing responsibilities to one or more teams and monitors their performance

Requirements

• TS/SCI clearance with a polygraph
• Master's Degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering from an accredited college or university (or 15 years of applicable design and development experience)
• 12 years direct experience leading teams of software design and development for collection systems and components
• ITILv3 Certification
• Experience with Python/Scripting CI/CD (Jenkins/GitLab/Code Pipeline), AWS, API Integration, Algorithm development

Qualifications

• Master's Degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering from an accredited college or university is required. Four (4) years of additional SWE experience on projects with similar software processes may be substituted for a master’s degree.

Pay

Salary range: $120,000 - $180,000 annually
