Software/Principal Software Engineer
About the role
Northrop Grumman is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer or Principal Embedded Software Engineer to join our team. This position will be full-time, on-site at our Rolling Meadows, IL location. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, operating, and maintaining software and firmware components and computing systems software to be applied to and integrated with engineering, scientific, and manufacturing requirements. The position requires experience with the full software development life cycle, including requirements, design, coding, testing, and integration.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, operate, and maintain software and firmware components and computing systems software
- Interface with customers, suppliers, application users, and other technical and support personnel
- Develop embedded software running Linux or VxWorks operating systems
- Apply software development methodologies and frameworks such as Waterfall Methodology and/or Agile
- Use version control systems like Git, Gitlab, Github, Bitbucket, ClearCase, and Agile software planning tools like Rally, Jira
- Test, debug, and integrate embedded software on target hardware
- Work on complex systems of systems utilizing parallel processing, multi-threading, distributed processing, multi-core, system-on-chip, and secure processing
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or similar engineering discipline with a minimum of 2+ years of engineering experience, or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or similar engineering discipline or in lieu of degree, an additional 4 years of experience is required.
- Object Oriented Programming in C++
- Familiarity with Software architecture (design patterns, object oriented design)
- Familiarity with scripting languages (Python, Bash, Batch, etc.)
- Experience Developing Embedded Software running Linux or VxWorks Operating Systems
- Familiarity with software development methodologies and frameworks such as Waterfall Methodology and/or Agile
- Familiarity with various version control systems (Git, Gitlabs, Github, Bitbucket, ClearCase. etc) and Agile software planning tools (Rally, Jira, etc)
Qualifications
- US Citizenship
- Ability to obtain and maintain a minimum of a Secret Clearance with additional customer specified clearance prior to start.
Skills
- Experience with Object Oriented Programming in C++11
- Experience with scripting languages (Python, Bash, Batch, etc)
- Experience with software development methodologies and frameworks such as Waterfall Methodology and/or Agile
- Experience testing, debugging, and integrating Embedded Software on target hardware
- Experience with complex systems of systems that utilize Parallel Processing, Multi-Threading, Distributed Processing, Multi-Core, System-on-Chip, and Secure Processing
Benefits
The position offers competitive compensation, including a range of $85,400.00 - $128,000.00 for the primary level and $105,400.00 - $158,000.00 for the secondary level. Additional benefits include health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, a savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
Pay
The starting salary for this position is $85,400.00 - $128,000.00 for the primary level and $105,400.00 - $158,000.00 for the secondary level. Overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus may also be available.
