About the role

This is a hands-on, individual contributor technical leader position responsible for setting standards and ensuring excellence in quality across multiple teams. You will partner with cross-functional teams, provide input on a broad range of initiatives, and act as a technical expert by staying abreast of new technologies and industry best practices. This role involves crafting product strategy, designing technical solutions, mentoring team members, and collaborating with customers to improve Early Warning’s products.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with product management to craft product strategy, create product descriptions, and align with technology roadmaps.
  • Serve as a thought leader on software engineering issues, industry trends, and emerging technologies.
  • Mentor and coach team members, acting as a role model for engineering excellence.
  • Own the creation of technical product design and architecture.
  • Develop and present technical concepts to small-to-medium groups.
  • Collaborate with customers to understand their needs and improve Early Warning’s products.
  • Shape engineering approaches and share knowledge with software engineering, product, and architecture teams.
  • Develop and scope a department-wide technical vision for the future.
  • Design and engineer product/application service solutions aligned with technology strategy (e.g., cloud, containerization, CI/CD, automated testing) while ensuring scalability, ease of maintenance, and operational readiness.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to influence and motivate teams, driving strategic and successful change management.
  • Support the company’s commitment to risk management and data integrity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related technical field.
  • Fifteen or more years of experience designing and developing complex software projects, with at least eight years in the FinTech domain.
  • 1-2 years of experience implementing application solutions/services in the cloud using containerization, CI/CD, automated testing, and security compliance guidelines.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams to create technical solutions.
  • Exceptional communication and public speaking skills, with the ability to present to all levels within the company.
  • Knowledge of Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) best practices, Agile/Scrum/LEAN methodologies, and DevOps practices.
  • Proven track record designing and building complex end-to-end systems (full stack development).
  • Hands-on experience with one or more of the following technologies:
    • Java RESTful Web Services (Java, J2EE, JUnit, Tomcat).
    • Microservices Architecture.
    • Open Source Frameworks (Spring Boot, Spring Core).
    • Messaging frameworks (Kafka, Tibco EMS, JMS).
    • Oracle PL/SQL.
    • JavaScript and scripting frameworks (jQuery, AngularJS).
  • Hands-on experience in test automation at various levels (unit, component, integration, and functional tests).
  • Proven experience in OOA/OOD.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipeline implementation (Git, Chef, Maven, Jenkins).
  • Solid understanding of modern cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud, MS Azure).
  • Experience with code repositories (Git, SVN), bug tracking tools (Jira, Bugzilla), and Wikis (Confluence).

Preferred Qualifications

  • System design experience with commerce, APIs, payment operations, and/or checkout functions.
  • Advanced Java and Spring/Spring Boot development.
  • AWS-based application architecture.
  • Hands-on system design and coding.
  • Technical leadership for a delivery team, including code and design reviews, mentoring engineers, and leading technical planning.
  • Knowledge of real-time payment networks (RTP, FedNow).
  • FinTech experience.
  • Kubernetes experience.

Physical Requirements

  • Work is primarily sedentary in a normal office environment, involving extensive computer use and sitting for extended periods.
  • Occasional standing, walking, kneeling, and reaching may be required.
  • Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds occasionally.
  • Requires visual acuity and dexterity to operate office equipment, including computers.
  • Must be able to communicate with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Pay

Base pay scale for this position in San Francisco, CA is $207,000 - $276,000 USD per year. Candidates are also eligible for a discretionary incentive plan and benefits. Pay is subject to change and depends on factors such as job scope, market rates, geographic location, education, experience, training, and specialized skills.
