About the role

Northrop Grumman is seeking a Principal Embedded Software Engineer or Senior Principal Embedded Software Engineer to join our team in Charlottesville, VA. This position is responsible for designing, developing, operating, and maintaining software and firmware components and computing systems software to be applied to and integrated with engineering, scientific, and manufacturing requirements. The successful candidate will collaborate with customers, suppliers, application users, and other technical and support personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, operate, and maintain software and firmware components and computing systems software to be applied to and integrated with engineering, scientific, and manufacturing requirements.
  • Interface with customers, suppliers, application users, and other technical and support personnel.
  • Apply the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the system development life cycle to support the generation of engineering applications and products.
  • Develop embedded software running Linux or VxWorks Real Time Operating Systems.
  • Work with software development methodologies and frameworks such as Waterfall Methodology and/or Agile.
  • Use version control systems like Git, Gitlab, Github, Bitbucket, ClearCase, and Agile software planning tools like Rally, Jira.
  • Utilize modeling tools such as CAMEO, Rational.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related STEM field with a minimum of 5+ years of relevant engineering experience; or 3+ years with a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering; or 1+ year with PhD.
  • Experience with Object Oriented Programming in C/C++.
  • Familiarity with Java a plus.
  • Experience with scripting languages (Python, Bash, Batch, etc.).
  • Experience developing embedded software running Linux or VxWorks Real Time Operating Systems.
  • Familiarity with Software architecture (design patterns, object oriented design).
  • Familiarity in CI/CD Pipeline development (DevOps).
  • Familiarity with various version control systems (Git, Gitlab, Github, Bitbucket, ClearCase. etc) and Agile software planning tools (Rally, Jira, etc).
  • Familiarity with Modeling Tools ie: CAMEO, Rational.

Qualifications

  • US Citizenship required for positions requiring a government clearance.
  • Active Secret Clearance required.
  • Occasional travel required to support program and customer needs.

Skills

  • Software development methodologies and frameworks such as Waterfall Methodology and/or Agile.
  • CI/CD Pipeline Development (DevOps).
  • Testing, debugging, and integrating Embedded Software on target hardware.

Pay

The primary level salary range for this position is $98,400.00 - $147,600.00, with a secondary level range of $122,800.00 - $184,200.00. Overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus may also be offered.

Schedule

This position is full-time, on-site at our Charlottesville, VA location.
