About the role

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is seeking a Principal Embedded Software Engineer or Sr. Principal Embedded Software Engineer to join our team in Melbourne, Florida. This position offers the opportunity to design, develop, integrate, and test software for end-user customers and businesses, focusing on embedded and real-time systems. You will collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, including Systems Engineering, Test Automation, DevSecOps, and Systems Test, in an Agile software development environment.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the full software development life cycle, including requirements, design, implementation, qualification, and delivery of software products.
  • Architect and develop embedded mission systems software applications on a real-time operating system.
  • Work in an innovative environment on diverse assignments, collaborating across all levels in Agile Scrum teams.
  • Analyze system capabilities to resolve problems related to program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques, and controls.
  • Develop, integrate, debug, verify, and qualify safety/mission-critical embedded real-time software written in OO C++ running on real-time operating systems (e.g., VxWorks, Integrity, Real-Time Embedded Linux).
  • Utilize software change control, change management, and CI/CD tools (e.g., Atlassian suite, GitHub, GitLab, Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Apply static and dynamic code analysis tools and fuzzing tools (e.g., Coverity, SonarQube, Fortify).

Qualifications

This requisition may be filled at either a Principal Software Engineer (level 3) or Sr. Principal Software Engineer (level 4) level.

Principal Software Engineer (level 3)

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline and 5 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years of related engineering experience; OR a PhD in a STEM discipline and 1 year of related engineering experience.
  • Professional experience with Agile frameworks within the last 3 years.
  • Professional experience developing software and scripts in C, Object-Oriented C++, and/or Python for safety/mission-critical applications/systems within the last 3 years.
  • Professional experience with software change control, change management, and CI/CD tools (e.g., Atlassian suite, GitHub, GitLab, Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes) within the last 3 years.
  • Professional experience architecting, designing, modeling (Rhapsody or Cameo), implementing, maintaining, integrating, debugging, verifying, and qualifying safety/mission-critical embedded real-time software in OO C++ on real-time operating systems within the last 3 years.
  • Professional experience with static and dynamic code analysis tools and fuzzing tools (e.g., Coverity, SonarQube, Fortify) within the last 3 years.

Sr. Principal Software Engineer (level 4)

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline and 8 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 6 years of related engineering experience; OR a PhD in a STEM discipline and 4 years of related engineering experience.
  • Professional experience with Agile frameworks within the last 3 years.
  • Professional experience developing software and scripts in C, Object-Oriented C++, and/or Python for safety/mission-critical applications/systems within the last 3 years.
  • Professional experience with software change control, change management, and CI/CD tools (e.g., Atlassian suite, GitHub, GitLab, Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes) within the last 3 years.
  • Professional experience architecting, designing, modeling (Rhapsody or Cameo), implementing, maintaining, integrating, debugging, verifying, and qualifying safety/mission-critical embedded real-time software in OO C++ on real-time operating systems within the last 3 years.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated leadership, teamwork capabilities, strong time management, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with systems engineers, hardware designers, and integration/test engineers to develop and maintain complex software systems.
  • Recent professional experience with DOORs and/or software requirement specification testing using simulators, automated scripting languages (e.g., Python, MATLAB, JavaScript, Bash).
  • Recent experience with software network interfaces and troubleshooting networks (e.g., TCP/IP, UDP, LAN, VLAN, SNMP).
  • Current Special Access Program (SAP) access.

Pay

Primary Level Salary Range: $98,400.00 - $147,600.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $122,800.00 - $184,200.00

The above salary ranges represent general guidelines. Base salary offers consider factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s experience, education, skills, and current market conditions. Depending on the position, employees may also be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions and allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
