About the role

At Mammotome, one of Danaher’s 15+ operating companies, you will lead high-impact materials science and polymer engineering initiatives across complex, cross-functional product development programs—from early concept through commercialization. This on-site role in Cincinnati, Ohio reports to the Director, Engineering and drives innovation, risk mitigation, and strategic technical decision-making for implantable medical devices.

You will provide scientific and technical leadership for high-risk, high-impact development programs involving bioabsorbable polymer-based implantable devices, develop and execute polymer material science and degradation strategies, and serve as a technical lead for cross-functional teams across R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory, and Clinical functions. Additionally, you will mentor engineers and act as a trusted technical advisor to senior leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Lead high-impact materials science and polymer engineering initiatives for implantable medical devices.
  • Develop and execute polymer material science and degradation strategies aligned with product performance, manufacturability, regulatory requirements, and lifecycle needs.
  • Serve as a technical lead for cross-functional teams across R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory, and Clinical functions.
  • Drive innovation through polymer chemistry, formulation, processing, and materials characterization.
  • Mentor engineers and act as a trusted technical advisor to senior leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field.
  • Deep expertise in bioabsorbable polymer materials, including degradation behavior, structure–property relationships, and application in implantable medical devices.
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex, cross-functional engineering projects.
  • Extensive experience in medical device development, including regulatory and product lifecycle considerations.
  • Long-standing experience in polymer science, materials development, and manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to travel up to 20%, including domestic and international travel, with typical assignments of 2–5 days.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in a relevant engineering or materials discipline.
  • Project management certification and/or Six Sigma Green or Black Belt.

Pay

The annual salary range for this role is $170,000 - $180,000. This role is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
