About the Role
Ampere Computing is growing, and we’re seeking a dynamic RAS & Fault Monitoring Firmware Engineer to help ensure our SOC platforms deliver reliable, production-grade behavior. You’ll work across the full firmware lifecycle for Ampere’s SOC products—partnering closely with internal cross-functional teams, external partners and customers, and the open-source community.
In this role, you’ll build and validate firmware capabilities for resilience, fault containment, observability, and automated recovery.
Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver firmware across the stack, from Ampere’s proprietary low-level firmware through mid-level implementations (e.g., EDK2), and up to kernel drivers and test applications.
- Design and implement RAS and Fault Monitoring features including telemetry, fault classification, error injection support, and recovery/mitigation flows.
- Collaborate with Ampere hardware and software architects to influence SOC and firmware design choices and ensure firmware mechanisms align with system requirements.
- Bring up pre-silicon software support on HW emulation and bring-up environments to validate RAS and Fault Monitoring early.
- Own bug triage to resolution: debug, root cause, and fix software issues spanning multiple subsystems (firmware/OS), and drive sustainable fixes upstream.
- Support multiple platforms and programs, working with internal teams and external customers to ensure consistent feature quality and behavior.
- Partner with ODMs and ecosystem stakeholders to implement firmware features on SoC reference platforms and ensure integration readiness.
- Work with Field Application Engineers (FAEs) to reproduce customer-reported issues, validate fixes, and improve overall product reliability.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a related technical field & 8 years of related experience; or Master's degree & 6 years.
- Experience in RAS and Fault Monitoring, including:
- SOC fault monitoring / platform fault monitoring
- Minimum Risk Maneuvers (MRM)
- Software Test Libraries (STLs) and fault/robustness testing
- Minimum 6 years of experience designing, writing, and testing firmware.
- Strong experience in multi-threaded programming and concurrency-aware design.
- Demonstrated ability coding in C.
- Experience with assembly and direct hardware access.
- Strong analytical, debugging, and testing skills, with the ability to resolve issues spanning firmware and OS boundaries.
- Proven track record of driving features from requirements through delivery and validation.
- In-depth knowledge of software development methodologies that produce maintainable, sustainable code.
- Experience with SCM and CI/CD tooling, such as: Git, Jenkins, and issue/defect tracking tools (e.g., Bugzilla and JIRA).
