Principal R&D Engineer, NPD
About the role
As an expert professional in this field, the Principal R&D Engineer serves as the subject matter expert in the design, continuous improvement, and manufacturability of commercialized neurovascular, endovascular or vascular products/product line(s) and /or technical innovation of same. This position used deep expertise in this field and provides insights and leadership as an individual technical contributor to promote new ideas and innovation when establishing processes and methods/techniques that drive best practices and engineering principles to a broader technical team in one of the specific engineering focuses mentioned below.
Responsibilities
- Lead assigned technical projects in catheter engineering group to drive value improvement, line extensions, and commercial compliance with quality systems and global regulatory requirements.
- Evaluate performance characteristics of new product designs and identify opportunities for new development or improvements based on customer feedback, technologies, and clinical needs.
- Through research, technical discussions, and interaction with SAB and R&D team members, conceptualize and/or prototype new product designs, add-ons, or enhancements.
- Ensure products are designed to facilitate manufacturability addressing budget constraints, customer needs, and schedule requirements.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or related discipline and a minimum of 12+ years of related experience driving innovation in the development of flexible medical device instruments; or equivalent combination of education and work experience in related regulated industry.
- Experience leading a technical cross-functional team through all phases of product development.
- Ability to be self-directed with minimal direction and supervision and take initiative to discern from multiple priorities when guiding a technical project team toward efficient solutions and opportunities; ability to multi-task efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Entrepreneurial spirit, a strong foundation in documentation and communications skills required.
Qualifications
The Principal R&D Engineer should have a strong foundation in documentation and communications skills, as well as the ability to lead a technical cross-functional team through all phases of product development. They should also possess a Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related discipline and at least 12+ years of related experience driving innovation in the development of flexible medical device instruments.
Skills
Strong technical skills in designing and evaluating new product designs, as well as the ability to conceptualize and prototype new product designs, add-ons, or enhancements. Proficiency in managing budgets, meeting customer needs, and adhering to schedule requirements while ensuring manufacturability.
