Principal Project Manager: Substation P&C SCADA
About the Role
Jacobs is expanding its Energy & Power Major Programs team to tackle the complexities of decarbonization and utility modernization, delivering a cleaner and more secure energy future. This position offers the opportunity to manage and grow a project team involved in projects from concept to engineering design, permitting, procurement, construction, commissioning, and close-out of greenfield and brownfield high voltage transmission, substation, and distribution facilities in the power industry.
You will lead a multi-disciplinary team to ensure successful project delivery, adhering to client expectations. The role involves preparing and updating financial forecasts, project schedules, and reports, leading project meetings, managing client relationships, and monitoring projects to minimize risk while adhering to budget, schedule, scope, and quality.
Responsibilities
- Manage projects through phases from concept to close-out, including engineering design, permitting, procurement, construction, commissioning, and financial close-out.
- Lead a multi-disciplinary team to ensure projects meet client expectations and business objectives.
- Prepare and update financial forecasts, project schedules, and reports on a weekly/monthly basis or as required.
- Lead project meetings, document minutes, and distribute notes and action items to team members.
- Manage client relationships to ensure expectations are understood and met.
- Collaborate with the broader Jacobs team to resolve client concerns and maintain positive relationships.
- Monitor projects to minimize risk, adhere to budget and schedule, and mitigate risks as they arise.
- Manage project communications and respond promptly to inquiries from client management or support teams.
- Notify stakeholders immediately if projects exceed approved budget/schedule or if significant risks/issues arise.
- Perform/facilitate project administrative activities, including purchase/change orders, work status verification, invoice reviews, and updating project status.
- Coordinate engineering design development, drawing submittals, and quality review processes.
- Manage resolution of emergent field issues in compliance with codes, environmental, and safety requirements.
- Track and manage project compliance (regulatory and non-regulatory).
- Support resolution of siting/permitting, municipality, and/or abutter issues.
- Facilitate contractor sourcing activities, including issuing RFPs, bid analysis, and award recommendations.
- Develop and pursue business opportunities with existing or new clients.
- Support Jacobs operational and business development teams with proposals or materials for new opportunities.
- Travel to project sites and/or attend client meetings as required.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program or an advanced management/business degree.
- 15+ years of project management experience in power delivery projects from initiation through financial close-out as part of CapEx or OpEx portfolios.
- Experience delivering greenfield/brownfield OH transmission lines (138kV to 765kV), rebuild/reroute, substation, protection & control, SCADA, telecom, IPP, data centers, industrial customer, or battery storage projects.
- Experience collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, including project controls, engineering, procurement, construction management, permitting, land acquisition, and surveying.
- Ability to work with project controls on cost analysis, forecasting, risk identification, assessment, and mitigation.
- Proven track record of managing cost, schedule, and risk.
- Excellent customer-facing, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in developing and delivering presentation materials.
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including proposal development, negotiation, and consensus-building.
- Experience with general project management processes used within the utility industry.
- Willingness to travel to project sites and/or client meetings.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with EPC contractors.
- PMP Certification.
- Previous program management experience for Investor-Owned Utilities (IOUs) in the U.S.
- Engineering degree and FE or PE License.
- Construction, commissioning, and start-up experience.

Pay
The base salary range for this position is $134,500.00 to $176,625.00. Individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
Schedule
- In Office: Preferred.
- Hybrid: Can be considered if the candidate is willing to travel 50%.
