Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Be part of the team developing substation projects from conception (Early Stage) through construction and commissioning (Execution).
- During the conceptual phase, work with the Early-Stage Project Manager and Development Group to define and support project engineering requirements and scope.
- Plan, coordinate, and complete large-scale or several medium, complex, or long-term projects within budgetary and scheduling guidelines.
- Secure required resources and use formal processes and tools to manage resources, budgets, risks, and changes.
- Conduct project meetings and take responsibility for project tracking and analysis.
- Identify issues, measure and validate results, and implement solutions to project challenges.
- Provide information to internal and external clients on moderate to complex issues.
- Create and communicate presentation materials, reports, and project updates for internal and external stakeholders at various levels.
- Provide technical oversight of external engineers of record (EORs) for all assigned substation projects to ensure compliance with required generation interconnection agreements, scope of work documents, project specifications, site-specific design requirements, IEEE, NESC, ASCE, and all other applicable industry codes and standards.
- Secure engineering consulting resources from a list of approved suppliers by developing a scope of work, securing bids, evaluating, and awarding work through NEER's Integrated Supply Chain (ISC) Group.
- Cook up with other project stakeholders to develop and secure a substation site and support the engineering updates, data, and permits necessary to design and build the substation.
- Cook up with other NEER groups to ensure assigned substation projects are successful. Represent E&C's internal and external interests on assigned projects, including presentations and briefings on progress, issues, and risk mitigation for meetings with various levels of management.
- Support Transmission Services during review of interconnection documentation, including system impact studies, facility studies, reactive and harmonic studies, and interconnection agreements. Ensure Transmission Owner requirements and E&C engineering design are consistent, comply with all ISO requirements, and are incorporated into the project design. Communicate regularly with the respective transmission owners, operators, and ISOs to ensure project deliverables meet specific off-taker requirements and are timely and accurate.
- Manage all project long-lead major material orders to minimize the risk of delays or budget overruns.
- Aid ISC with substation project scope of work creation, review, approval, and preparation of shopping carts for engineering services and materials in a timely manner.
- Manage development of substation design documents, including physical drawings, electrical schematics, and civil drawings, through the 10%, 30%, 60%, 90%, and Issued for Construction (IFC) drawing sets.
- Interface with EORs during development of design documents.
- Coordinate document reviews and provide comments on documents submitted by the EOR.
- Work collaboratively with project engineering resources in various disciplines to determine project priorities, work plans, and lines of demarcation. Support the project schedule from the engineering standpoint.
- Ensure that projects are efficiently, cost-effectively, and safely implemented in accordance with department processes, procedures, industry standards, and policies.
- Support assigned project commissioning activities to meet corporate objectives.
- Support Legal in any regulatory filings, depositions, and/or hearings.
- Collaborate with component OEMs to enhance/adapt their designs to better integrate with NEER's philosophies.
- Conduct external research and stay up to date on new developments or innovative advancements pertaining to the project.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. Master of Science or MBA Degree is a plus.
- 10+ years' experience in Substation design and engineering of High Voltage substation projects is highly preferred.
- Project Engineering and/or Project Management experience with a strong bias for action. PMP and/or P.E. is a plus. Not required to stamp engineering drawings.
- Travel required within North America.
Job Location
Juno Beach - Remote is acceptable, reporting to Juno Beach once bimonthly.
