Principal Product Manager, Data & Business Intelligence
About the role
We are seeking a Principal Product Manager, Data & Business Intelligence to shape the future of how data empowers product decisions and prioritization for Yahoo Search. This is not a "dashboard request" role. You will own the strategy and execution for internal BI tools, product insights generation, and data enablement across Yahoo Search.
Responsibilities
- Own and evolve the vision, roadmap, and strategy for Data Products, BI tooling, and AI-powered Product Insights.
- Utilize Generative AI and AI-assisted tools to rapidly prototype and visualize data tools and interfaces, creating realistic mockups that help stakeholders align on the vision before engineering starts building.
- Lead the use of AI to automate repetitive reporting, turning raw data into easy-to-read summaries and tools that allow anyone to get answers quickly.
- Partner with Product Management leadership to embed product analytics frameworks (e.g., funnel analysis, cohorting, user engagement models) directly into the product development lifecycle.
- Create a data environment where AI helps people understand complex information, moving the company from "requesting data" to "interacting with insights."
- Build scalable, intuitive, and high-trust BI solutions — from automated dashboards to predictive opportunity sizing.
- Deeply understand user needs for reporting, diagnostics, forecasting, and opportunity sizing.
- Prioritize data platform investments that balance immediate BI needs with longer-term scalability and quality.
- Use AI to automatically spot unusual patterns or trends in our data, alerting the team to business risks or opportunities before they appear in standard reports.
- Create success criteria for insights and reporting adoption — measuring the impact on decision-making speed and accuracy.
- Stay current on emerging AI tools and proactively suggest improvements to the Yahoo data stack to increase team speed.
- Collaborate with Data Analysts, Data Engineers, and other PMs to raise the bar on data product thinking and AI-driven validation.
- Engage executives directly to ensure alignment between strategic priorities and data strategy.
Requirements
- 8+ years in Product Management roles with a heavy emphasis on Data Products, BI, Analytics, or Internal Platforms.
- Deep technical literacy in SQL, modern BI tools (Google Analytics, Looker, Tableau, Hex, Power BI), and data warehouse architectures (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift).
- Proven ability to leverage AI tools (e.g., Gemini, Claude, or specialized AI prototyping platforms) to rapidly build and iterate on data visualizations and functional product mockups.
- Experience defining and operationalizing product metrics (DAU, WAU, MAU, churn, revenue KPIs, etc.).
- Demonstrated success building self-service data products or internal platforms.
- Ability to translate abstract business questions into concrete data and insights needs — with strong storytelling around the “why”.
- Strong stakeholder management experience across Product, Engineering, Analytics, and Business functions.
- Exceptional communication skills — clear, concise, executive-ready.
- Commitment to continuous learning and experimentation within evolving, AI-augmented environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with experimentation frameworks (e.g., A/B testing, multi-armed bandits, holdout tests).
- Familiarity with event-driven data systems (e.g., Segment, Amplitude, Mixpanel) and product telemetry best practices.
- Experience launching or managing tools that use AI to generate insights or chat-based data interfaces.
- Python proficiency for light data analysis or partnering closely with Data Science teams.
- Experience leading company-wide Data Governance or Metric Standardization initiatives.
- Ability to review AI-generated reports for accuracy, knowing when to trust the AI and when a manual check is needed.
