About the Role

Deel is transforming from a suite of products into an intelligent, orchestrated experience for work. As Principal Designer, you'll work directly with the Chief Design Officer as a collaborator on frontier design initiatives: the vision projects that sit ahead of where the core product roadmap is today. This is not a single-project role. The brief will move as the frontier moves. Right now, a central piece of that work is orchestration, designing what it means for a user to move from intent to resolution across a single, coherent experience layer.

Responsibilities

  • Design at the Frontier: Take early, undefined vision and turn it into designed, prototyped, shippable experience, anchored right now in orchestration and intent-to-resolution design, with the remit expanding to new frontier initiatives over time.
  • Build Across Verticals: Partner with product, engineering, and design leads across Deel's vertical teams so whatever you're building is coherent, scalable, and integrated with existing surfaces.
  • Prototype at the Frontier: Rapidly design, prototype, and test novel interaction paradigms, from intent-driven interfaces and agentic workflows to task prediction UX and personalized, adaptive experiences.
  • Design for Personalization: Design experiences powered by the segmentation and personalization infrastructure Deel's insights function builds, without owning the underlying data models.
  • Push Design Patterns Forward: Innovate on interaction patterns at the frontier that inform what eventually gets codified into the design system, without owning the system itself.
  • Build Alignment: Build alignment across product, engineering, and leadership through compelling design narrative and prototypes.
  • Raise the Bar on Craft: Hold a high craft bar on every surface you touch, sharp enough to stand next to brand without owning it.

Requirements

  • Principal or Staff Level Experience: 10+ years in design, including 2+ years at principal level - or equivalent seniority. You operate as an individual contributor in fast-paced, high-complexity product environments, leading through vision and craft, not people management.
  • Systems Thinker: Proven ability to design across product surfaces and organizational boundaries, thinking in systems, not screens.
  • Self-Directed: Comfortable owning a problem end to end with minimal oversight, from ambiguous brief to shipped experience, without waiting for direction on what to build next.
  • Comfortable with a Moving Brief: Energized by ambiguity and by work that shifts as the frontier moves, rather than needing a fixed, permanent mandate.
  • Prototyping and Craft: Exceptional prototyping skills and strong visual and interaction design sensibility.
  • AI-Native Design Practice: Hands-on experience designing AI-powered product experiences (agentic workflows, intent-driven interfaces, generative UI, personalization systems), focused on designing with and for AI rather than building AI tooling.
  • Personalization-Aware: Comfortable designing experiences powered by segmentation and personalization systems without owning the data modeling behind them.
  • Collaborative and Cross-functional: A natural relationship builder across design, product, and engineering who earns trust without needing a formal design-systems or data-science mandate to do it.
  • Communication and Narrative: An exceptional communicator who builds alignment through design vision, particularly when translating undefined ideas into something a room can align behind.
  • Location: NAMER or LATAM based, with working hours overlapping Pacific time and some overlap with EMEA.

Skills

AI is fundamentally changing what products can do and how they're designed. Right now, orchestration is Deel's most visible bet in this space, and it's where this role starts. But the mandate is broader than any single project: this is the design seat for whatever frontier the CDO is pushing next. If you've designed agentic workflows, intent-driven interfaces, generative UI, or personalization experiences, and you want a role where the brief keeps evolving rather than settling into steady-state, this is that seat.
