About the role
The Principal Engineer at Molex will play a critical role on the team, enabling partnerships with customers, focusing on long-term planning, delegating tasks, and handling advanced, custom technology challenges.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of cutting-edge next-generation products and components for high-speed cable and connectors.
- Partner with customers, vendors, marketing, and sales personnel, and other engineering areas during the pre-production stages of new products.
- Create original ideas for new products/solutions and develop them into practical and economical models through feasibility studies.
- Lead the engineering design evaluation and design proposal to the customer.
- Build prototype samples and perform validation.
- Provide technical support to the Operations team including Quality and Production for efficiency improvement and safe launch.
- Resolve product-related issues to closure and manage the design change process.
- Build a deep understanding of the market and customer needs by fostering a connection between the business engineering teams and the customer engineering teams.
- Maintain a system-level understanding of the customer application and the product design/concept necessary for providing a solution to the customers' expectations.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
- At least 15 years in the connector industry.
- Expertise in contact physics.
- Expertise in providing technical direction and coaching to a design team.
- Design expertise in various board launch and wire termination technologies.
Qualifications
- Working knowledge in high-density board termination rework process.
- Six Sigma training/certification.
- Experience working with customers in the data storage market.
- Experience in NX and TeamCenter.
- Geometric dimensioning and tolerance.
Skills
- Experience leading new product design efforts.
- Ability to conceive original ideas for new products/solutions and develop them into practical and economical models through feasibility studies.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Benefits
This role is eligible for a base salary of $150,000-$200,000 per year, plus variable pay options.
