Principal Product Design Engineer - Enterprise Copper Solutions
About the role
The Principal Engineer at Molex will play a critical role on the team, enabling partnerships with customers, focusing on long-term planning, delegating tasks, and handling advanced, custom technology challenges.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of cutting-edge next-generation products and components for the high-speed cable and connector market.
- Partner with customers, vendors, marketing, and sales personnel, and other engineering areas during the pre-production stages of new products.
- Create original ideas for new products/solutions and develop them into practical and economical models through feasibility studies.
- Provide technical direction and coaching to a design team, ensuring a deep understanding of the market and customer needs.
- Manage the design change process, resolve product-related issues to closure, and provide technical support to the Operations team including Quality and Production for efficiency improvement and safe launch.
- Build prototype samples and perform validation, and maintain a system-level understanding of the customer application and product design/concept.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
- At least 15 years of experience in the connector industry.
- Expertise in contact physics.
- Experience leading new product design efforts.
- Design expertise in various board launch and wire termination technologies.
Qualifications
- Six Sigma training/certification.
- Experience working with customers in the data storage market.
- Experience in NX and TeamCenter.
- Geometric dimensioning and tolerance.
Skills
- Strong leadership and technical direction skills.
- Ability to conceive and develop innovative solutions.
- Expertise in high-density board termination rework processes.
Benefits
This role is eligible for a salary range of $150,000 - $200,000 per year, with the possibility of variable pay in the form of a monetary bonus or other forms.
