About the role
Develop and implement Automation solutions focused on process power technology for the metals industry.
Responsibilities
- Analyze electrical loads and power usage to determine optimum performance windows
- Size transformers for AC and DC arc furnace applications
- Consider magnetic field influences and associated grounding techniques
- Review power system requirements for drive feeders and protection
- Outline power regulation performance/response based on process applications
- Support existing installed systems and assist customers with challenging technical issues through process knowledge, data analysis, and implementation
- Complete assignments requiring development of new and/or improved engineering techniques and procedures
- Interface and communicate with a local project team (project managers, engineers, support personnel) and internal experts from other areas as well as customers and suppliers to provide engineering solutions to technical issues and project-related matters
- Mentor young engineers during project design and execution
- Perform limited site commissioning and training as required
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Power Engineering
- Extensive experience in an engineering role in the metals or a similar industry
- Experience with automation, power, and drive systems
- Experience in automation practices
- Demonstrates ability to apply engineering principles to the solution of design problems
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and mentor less experienced personnel
- Willingness to travel to support project work
- Extensive experience in data analysis and troubleshooting
- Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as excellent computer skills
