Principal Process Engineer
Position Description
The Principal Process Engineer / Subject Matter Expert (SME) provides specialized technical guidance and mentorship to Salas O'Brien's process engineering team on complex industrial and manufacturing projects. This role leverages extensive industry experience to support project teams with technical reviews, engineering problem-solving, design strategy, and best practices for specialized process engineering challenges.
This position is intended as a flexible, part-time consulting role with an anticipated workload of approximately 4–8 hours per week, based on project needs. The SME will serve as a trusted technical resource and advisor to project teams and will not be responsible for routine project execution, client management, business development or regular site travel.
Core Responsibilities
- Provide specialized technical guidance to process engineering staff on complex or unique engineering challenges.
- Serve as a technical reviewer for process engineering deliverables and provide recommendations to improve quality, consistency, and accuracy.
- Support project teams in the development and evaluation of process designs, process safety concepts, and engineering solutions.
- Provide mentorship and coaching to less experienced engineers and support professional development within the process engineering group.
Qualifications And Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Chemical engineering from an ABET accredited program.
- 20+ years of work experience in engineering design, chemical manufacturing, and/or food and beverage manufacturing.
- Familiar with capital projects and how they are executed in a manufacturing environment.
- Able to lead less experienced engineers with guidance and training and to check their deliverables.
- Experience performing pressure relief device sizing and pressure relieving system evaluations.
- Experience selecting and specifying process instrumentation.
- Location: Based out of Dublin, Ohio with flexibility to be Hybrid/Remote.
- Travel: Up to 1%.
