Job Summary

The Principal, Power Systems Engineer is a senior technical leader within the Systems Architecture & Engineering (SAE) organization. This role works in close partnership with Systems Architects to translate architecture intent into validated, executable system level engineering designs for hyperscale and AI data center power infrastructure. In addition to hands on technical leadership, this role oversees a small Systems Engineering team responsible for developing system designs, analyses, and reference materials that support customer engagements, Product Lines, and roadmap decisions. The role focuses on system level engineering execution and validation, not detailed product design.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Systems Architects to turn reference architectures into concrete system level designs, requirements, and design packages.
  • Oversee and mentor a small team of System Engineers performing architecture level design, modeling, and validation.
  • Ensure system designs are technically sound, internally consistent, and executable by Product Lines.
  • Lead development of end to end power system designs (grid interconnect → critical power → IT load interface).
  • Perform and review system level analyses (power flow, losses, availability, redundancy models, high level fault behavior).
  • Validate system designs against performance, reliability, scalability, and efficiency targets.
  • Support hyperscaler and AI customer engagements (RFI/RFPs, technical deep dives) as a system level engineering authority.
  • Translate customer asks and architecture concepts into engineering artifacts that Product Lines and delivery teams can execute.
  • Collaborate with Product Lines, Technical Sales, GSA/Sales, and Offering teams to ensure a consistent system level technical message.
  • Ensure system designs align with codes, standards, and industry best practices.
  • Contribute to architecture level TCO/LCOE analysis, articulating technical and economic tradeoffs.
  • Identify gaps between current portfolios and future system requirements and feed structured inputs to roadmap owners.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Master’s preferred).
  • 10+ years of experience in power systems, critical infrastructure, or large scale electrical engineering. (7+ with an Advanced Degree)
  • Strong experience with data center or mission critical power systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead system level engineering efforts and small technical teams.
  • Working knowledge of UL/IEC, NEC, IEEE, and data center–relevant standards sufficient to guide system level power architecture, validate engineering designs, and ensure executable, code aware solutions.
  • Ability to use Engi
