Job Summary
Job Responsibilities
- Directs and supervises the inmate classification process.
- Facilitates inmate classification and housing changes.
- Determines classification procedures.
- Affords assistance in the development of agency policy.
- Interprets and applies agency and County policies and procedures.
- Affords assistance in coordinating inmate classification issues with security, medical, programs, mental health, and inmate work supervision staff.
- Affords assistance in reconciling differences and reaching consensus on difficult issues.
- Conducts daily classification assessments.
- Reads and summarizes behavior reports accumulated since the previous assessment.
- Prepares a daily agenda based on recent behavior reports, ongoing issues, patterns, or progressive reports indicating need for attention.
- Prepares and distributes appropriate paperwork.
- Captures and documents the review and disposition of qualified inmates for inmate worker positions.
- Captures and documents the review of inmates classified as Administrative Segregation and reviews disciplinary housing.
- Develops and implements staff training on classification issues.
- Performs intake interviews with inmates.
- Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.
Standards For Initial Consideration
- AA degree in Criminal Justice or Law Enforcement preferred, with some college course work in psychology and sociology.
- Four years of experience in criminal justice, human services, business or related area with one year of administrative experience. Experience with group facilitation is preferred.
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
- Must possess and effectively utilize verbal and written communication skills to interact with inmates, Jail staff, community contacts, volunteers and County employees.
- Ability to utilize independent judgement and establish priorities with limited supervision.
- Ability to collect, analyze and interpret information in an effort to evaluate program effectiveness and results.
- Demonstrate knowledge of correctional facilities, inmate management and legal procedures.
- Possess computer skills and ability to operate general office equipment.
- Ability to utilize knowledge of human relations/behavior when interacting with inmates, the public, volunteers and County employees.
- Ability to exemplify, by his or her actions, the county's PRIDE philosophy.
