About the Role
As a Principal CAD PCB Physical Design Engineer in the Network Technology Solutions Group (NTSG), you will be responsible for the PCB physical design and technology development for AMD NTSG products in this expanding and strategic market. You will interact with key engineering teams such as silicon design, board design, signal/power integrity, and manufacturing to drive innovation and execution excellence.
Responsibilities
- Lead PCB physical design for high-speed and high-power boards from initial concept to mass production.
- Optimize component placement, high-speed signal routing, and critical power plane design.
- Create design constraints based on requirements from Hardware Design, Signal/Power-Integrity, and Mechanical/Thermal engineers.
- Ensure complex system layouts meet electrical, mechanical, and thermal specifications.
- Adapt designs to fit component availability or manufacturing limitations.
- Resolve PCB physical design issues and ensure a smooth transition from design to production.
- Generate comprehensive manufacturing and assembly packages (e.g., Gerber, ODB++).
- Build strong relationships with engineers and manufacturers to reduce redesign risks.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to keep projects on schedule and within scope.
- Stay at the forefront of PCB physical design innovations and technologies to maintain AMD’s industry leadership.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- Extensive experience in PCB physical design for high-speed/high-power systems.
- Strong background in electronic fundamentals and PCB design software (e.g., Cadence Allegro).
- Deep knowledge of PCB layers (copper, silkscreen, solder mask) and component models (symbol, footprint).
- Basic knowledge of mechanical, thermal, signal integrity, and power integrity principles.
- Familiarity with PCB manufacturing processes and standards.
- Hands-on experience balancing technical requirements from hardware engineers with practical manufacturing constraints.
- Excellent problem-solving and cross-functional collaboration skills.
