About the role
The ASOS program is an essential, joint mission support effort of NOAA/NWS, FAA, and DoD. The ASOS system collects and reports surface weather observations at airports, supporting aviation operations and weather forecasting. The ASOS system is aging and requires a SLEP to maintain reliability and continuity.
Responsibilities
- Infrastructure Design and Implementation
- Assist in designing and implementing modern IP communications systems.
- Avoid communication outages by implementing redundancy mechanisms.
- Ensure system uptime and resilience against disruptions.
- Telecommunications Contract Management
- Order, process, and track telecommunications circuits.
- Manage EIS contract task orders for NWS, US Navy, and FAA sites.
- Collate and present EIS vendor usage, bandwidth, and outage data.
- Risk Management and Redundancy
- Identify potential risks and implement mitigation strategies.
- Ensure solutions are resilient against disruptions.
- Stay updated on emerging technologies.
- Operations and Support
- Maintain a database of ASOS telecom circuits.
- Analyze and prepare EIS vendor usage data.
- Ensure robust network connectivity and performance.
- Cloud Network Engineering & Operations
- Design, implement, and manage secure, scalable, and highly available AWS network architectures.
- Optimize AWS networking services for performance and cost-efficiency.
- Implement and enforce network security measures.
- Monitor network health and troubleshoot incidents.
- Create and maintain automation scripts for efficient resource management.
- Collaboration & Documentation
- Provide expert guidance and collaborate with development, operations, and security teams.
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for cloud network designs and procedures.
- Support application deployments and migrations.
Requirements
Education: A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Network Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field. A Master's Degree in Information Systems or Network Architecture is preferred and can substitute for 2-3 years of experience. Certifications: Essential for AWS Certified Advanced Networking – Specialty, Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) or CCNP Enterprise, and DoD 8570/8140 IAT Level II/III (e.g., Security+, CASP+, or CISSP).
Skills
- Infrastructure & Telecom: Design and implementation of modern IP communication systems, experience with EIS contract task order processing, proficiency in routing protocols, and Layer 2/3 switching.
- Cloud & Automation: Advanced AWS networking, Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform, CloudFormation, or Python, perimeter security integration with Cloudflare and AWS WAF/Firewall Manager.
- Risk & Operations: Disaster recovery planning, network monitoring and troubleshooting, maintaining detailed circuit databases.

Pay
$100k-$140K based on years of experience.
