About the role
Iridium is seeking a Principal Network Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role involves collaborating with senior management to establish strategic plans and objectives for our Enterprise, Mission, and Commercial networks. Key responsibilities include managing operations and engineering tasks, leading projects, and providing technical guidance to colleagues.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with internal and external teams to manage operations and engineering tasks
- Manage multiple activities and projects, including designing, implementing, managing, maintaining, and troubleshooting networking and security hardware, protocols, and features
- Lead efforts to understand complex network issues and design innovative solutions
- Provide technical assistance to Iridium Ops-team on issues related to WAN traffic congestion, latency, link outages, and performance
- Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards to support direction and decision-making
- Manage and prioritize tasks, adhere to deadlines, and manage shifting priorities
- Work independently to perform installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of networking and security hardware
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or similar field
- 10+ years of experience managing and maintaining mid-to-large scale LAN/WAN networks
- 5+ years’ hands-on experience with Cisco Routers, Switches, Firewalls, and other vendor networking technologies
- In-depth knowledge and experience with IP routing protocols (OSPF, EIGRP, BGP), IP communication protocols, and network technologies
- Excellent network troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in a high-pressure environment
- Experience with AWS cloud features, solutions, and services, and configuration management tools like Ansible
- Comfortable working in a Linux environment, RHEL preferred, and virtualized environments
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite and Visio
Qualifications
- Confidence in building relationships with leadership and colleagues outside of the team
- Ability to clearly summarize information and confidently present complex results and analyses
- An analytical mindset capable of understanding situations and making critical decisions
Skills
- Experience with AWS cloud features, solutions, and services
- Hands-on experience with network certifications like CCNP or CompTIA Network+
- Knowledge of network protocols and standards
- Experience with configuration management tools
- Experience with network troubleshooting and problem-solving

Pay
$140,000 - $190,000 USD base pay range, with actual compensation determined by a variety of factors.
Schedule
This role requires a hybrid schedule with at least 60% of time spent in the office, typically 3 days per week.
