Position Summary

The Principal Environmental Engineer will provide environmental engineering, permitting, compliance, monitoring, and technical support for a mining operation under development in Idaho. Reporting to the VP of Permitting & External Affairs, the role serves as a key liaison between operations, engineering, environmental teams, consultants, and regulatory agencies, helping to integrate environmental stewardship, permitting requirements, and compliance obligations into facility design and planning, as well as future day-to-day mining activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support environmental permitting efforts, including permit amendments, renewals, modifications, and regulatory submissions.
  • Cook up permit application preparation by gathering technical data, developing supporting documentation, and working with operational departments and consultants.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with Idaho state agencies, federal regulators, and local stakeholders.
  • Track applicable and developing permit and regulatory requirements and ensure operational activities remain compliant with all permit conditions and reporting obligations.
  • Conduct compliance inspections, audits, regulatory reporting, and field assessments to verify adherence to permits, regulations, and company standards.
  • Support in the design and implementation of environmental management systems and data management.
  • Cook up environmental baseline studies, monitoring programs, and data collection activities.
  • Provide environmental engineering support for mine planning, operational projects, infrastructure improvements, and expansion initiatives.
  • Work with internal teams and consultants to evaluate environmental impacts and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Provide day-to-day environmental guidance and support to operations, maintenance, and project teams.
  • Cook up scopes of work, manage budgets, review deliverables, and ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and within budget.
  • Deliver environmental training and awareness programs for employees and contractors.
  • Promote and demonstrate a strong safety culture and ensure all activities are conducted in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Foster collaboration across departments while supporting the company's environmental stewardship and sustainability objectives.
  • Represent the company professionally with regulatory agencies, industry groups, and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Civil Engineering, Mining Engineering, Hydrology, Geology, Natural Resources, or related discipline.
  • Minimum 8 years of environmental experience in mining, industrial operations, or similar related field.
  • Demonstrated and varied experience with environmental permitting, regulatory compliance programs, and reclamation practices for operating mines.
  • Strong technical writing, design and data analysis, and project management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Environmental Management Systems, and GIS applications.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to work in a field-based mining environment.
  • Direct experience supporting mining operations in Idaho or the western United States, ideally at multiple stages of active mining, exploration and reclamation.
  • Familiarity with Cyanide Code certification and compliance requirements
  • Relevant experience managing environmental consultants, contractors, and technical studies.
  • Cross-functional experience in mine processing, mine operations, and mine engineering a plus
  • CEM, RCRA, DOT, HAZWOPR, CHMM, Opacity credentials a plus
  • Current MSHA certification
