About the role
GHD’s U.S West Mining Team is seeking a motivated Project Manager to join our Mining Team and support the planning, execution, and delivery of legacy mine reclamation and remediation projects.
Responsibilities
- Initiate and plan projects using disciplined project management practices (scope confirmation, WBS, schedule, risk planning, onboarding).
- Manage execution and controls: track progress, issues, changes, and dependencies; maintain project records in the project workspace for traceability.
- Carefully coordinate communications and reporting cadence; maintain deadline control for regulatory and client reporting obligations.
- Manage vendors and subcontractors under defined procedures; ensure work plans and outputs follow required verification pathways.
- Support digital field data collection and standardized reporting workflows; contribute to dashboards and evidence packs used for program and project visibility.
- Prepare deliverables and ensure they are ready for check/review with project director and/or subject matter expert approval prior to external use.
- Escalate risks and deviations early using leading indicators and agreed thresholds to support 'no surprises' delivery.
- Close out projects with complete documentation, lessons learned, and handoff as required.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in leading environmental field data collection, soil & groundwater investigations, and technical report preparation programs.
- Ability to manage scope, schedule, cost, and risk with a structured approach.
- Strong coordination skills across field/office resources, and multi-disciplinary technical teams.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills; capable of producing and managing recurring reporting deliverables.
- Ownership and follow-through on commitments, strong attention to detail, effective communication with technical and non-technical audiences, collaborative relationships with clients and team members, leadership potential and a desire to grow into larger project management responsibilities, a balance of technical problem-solving with business and project objectives.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Geological, Geotechnical, Environmental, or Mining Engineering, or related field.
- Approximately 5+ years of technical experience in environmental remediation and site assessments, report writing, data management & interpretation, project coordination, and managing clients.
- Project management experience is required beyond day-to-day task management (e.g., defining project scope/objectives, establishing and monitoring budgets, allocating resources, anticipating/mitigating risks).
- Understanding of project management principles and methodologies required.
- Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines required.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills required.
- Prior experience coordinating projects, task teams, and technical work packages required.
- Exposure to project budgeting, scheduling, forecasting, or client management preferred.
- Exposure to project management systems such as project accounting software (e.g., BST, Deltek, etc.), MS Project, and/or Primavera P6 preferred.
- Experience in remediation and reclamation of legacy mine sites preferred.
- CERCLA, RCRA, and/or state-led remediation program experience a plus.
- OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification desired.
- MSHA 24-hour New Miner training desired, but not required.
- Ability and willingness to travel to client meetings is required.
- PE a plus, but not required.
