Principal Mining Engineer
About the role
As our new Principal Mining Engineer, you will provide technical leadership on mining studies, operational improvement initiatives, and drill-and-blast optimization projects while serving as a trusted advisor to clients. This role combines engineering, project management, business development, and mentorship. The successful candidate will lead multidisciplinary teams delivering high-quality technical work for open pit and underground mining projects throughout North America and internationally.
The ideal candidate is recognized as a technical leader in mining engineering with expertise in mine planning, technical studies, and drill-and-blast optimization. They enjoy working directly with mine operations to solve complex challenges, improve productivity, reduce operating costs, and deliver value to clients. This individual is equally comfortable leading a feasibility study, conducting a blast performance audit in the field, mentoring junior engineers, and developing long-term client relationships.
Responsibilities
- Increase capacity for upcoming mine planning and technical study work
- Expand our drill-and-blast capabilities
- Reduce project delivery/schedule risk
- Position the mining engineering team to continue growing while maintaining high-quality client service
Qualifications
- Post-secondary degree in mining, civil, or geotechnical engineering
- Experience providing technical leadership on mining studies
- Familiar with international and public disclosure and reporting codes, including NI 43-101, JORC, SAMREC, Competent Persons Reports, and Mineral Expert Reports
- Experience with mine planning at an operational mine
- Experience with drill-and-blast optimization
- Expert user of at least one industry standard optimization, mine design and scheduling software package such as Datamine, Deswik, Vulcan, Surpac, and Whittle
- Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams
- Registered or qualified for registration as a Professional Engineer in the US
