Principal Mechanical Engineer – Well Completions Products (WCP): Sand Control Solutions
About the role
We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Mechanical Engineer – Well Completions Products (WCP): Sand Control Solutions to lead the design, development, and optimization of advanced mechanical systems for the Oil & Gas industry. This senior technical leadership role drives product innovation, performs advanced engineering analysis, resolves complex technical challenges, and ensures compliance with API, ISO, and customer requirements. The position offers an excellent opportunity to work on cutting-edge Well Completion Products, lead global engineering projects, mentor engineering teams, and contribute to the development of reliable, high-performance downhole technologies.
Responsibilities
- Lead the mechanical design, development, and optimization of Well Completion Products: Sand Control Solutions, Well Screens, Inflow Control Devices, Completion tools, and other downhole equipment.
- Drive new product development initiatives from concept through qualification, validation, and field deployment.
- Perform advanced engineering calculations, structural analysis, FEA, stress analysis, fatigue analysis, and failure investigations.
- Identify emerging technologies, industry trends, and opportunities for competitive advantage.
- Drive research, development, and implementation of innovative engineering solutions.
- Conduct feasibility studies, risk assessments, FMEA, and cost-benefit analyses for new technologies and product improvements.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable API, ISO, customer, and industry standards.
- Lead root cause failure analysis and implement design improvements to enhance product reliability, manufacturability, and cost efficiency.
- Evaluate materials, pressure containment, sealing systems, and mechanical integrity for harsh downhole environments.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, Operations, and HSE teams to ensure successful product integration and production readiness.
- Develop and maintain engineering standards, design guidelines, and best practices across the WCP product portfolio.
- Support field operations and customer troubleshooting activities by providing expert technical guidance.
- Maintain engineering documentation, including design calculations, drawings, qualification reports, testing records, and engineering change documentation.
- Mentor and coach engineering teams while fostering a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure compliance with company safety, quality, environmental, and regulatory requirements throughout all engineering activities.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- 15+ years of progressive experience in mechanical engineering, product design, and technical leadership.
- Extensive experience in the Oil & Gas industry, with a strong focus on Well Completion Products: Sand Control Solutions.
- Proven experience leading new product development, engineering analysis, and cross-functional project execution.
- Master's degree or PhD in Mechanical Engineering is preferred.
- Participation in technical societies, publications, or industry conferences is an added advantage.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally (10–25%) as required.
Skills
- Expertise in mechanical product design and development for Well Completion Products: Sand Control Solutions, Well Screens, Inflow Control Devices.
- Strong knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA), stress analysis, fatigue analysis, and failure mode investigations.
- Experience with Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and reliability engineering.
- Proficiency with CAD software such as Creo, SolidWorks, NX, or equivalent.
- Strong understanding of API, ISO, and Oil & Gas industry standards.
- Experience in material selection, pressure vessel design, sealing technologies, and downhole mechanical systems.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, technical leadership, and decision-making skills.
- Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration abilities with global engineering teams.
