Position Overview

The Principal Mechanical Engineer provides technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to the mechanical staff in operating groups. Ensures high-quality engineering efforts and assists in fee development. Assists the San Antonio Architectural Manager in meeting project delivery goals, manages project manhours, and addresses client expectations.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Performs complex engineering tasks and particularly important engineering work efficiently and accurately.
  • Designs complex HVAC systems for hospitals, laboratories, and other specialized ventilation and air conditioning projects for data centers, clean rooms, government, and commercial buildings.
  • Prepares engineering computations, material quantity takeoffs, estimates, surveys, and designs as needed for HVAC system documentation.
  • Works knowledgeably with HVAC cooling-heating load analysis software.
  • Familiarity with Trane Load Design and Trane Trace is not required but recommended.
  • Familiarity with IMC – International Mechanical Code as well as Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC).
  • Familiarity with LEED requirements with a LEED BC&D certification is desired.
  • Working knowledge of ASHRAE 90.1, 62.1, 55, ASHRAE 170 AND SMACNA 006-2006.
  • Performs industry-standard energy audits, developing action plans, organizing information, and identifying recommendations.
  • Performs industry-standard energy calculations (such as weather-based BIN calculations and trends analysis).
  • Affords assistance or performs existing building commissioning, understanding industry standard commissioning procedures or techniques, and familiarity with eQuest/DOE-2 and Building Life Cycle Cost (BLCC) software.
  • Analyzes data and building management system programming for performance and energy savings improvements.
  • Provides technical guidance to CAD Designer/Drafters, Designers, and lower-level Engineers working on the same project.
  • Might be required to provide the seal and signature of the professional engineer, as appropriate, ensuring compliance with all applicable codes, regulations, and ordinances.
  • Might act in an advisory capacity to senior management personnel on engineering related matters.
  • Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.

Preferred Education/Experience

  • 4-year degree (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering (or related field)
  • 10-15 years of related work experience
  • Professional Engineer registration required
  • 2+ years of experience in energy efficiency engineering with buildings or industrial applications
  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM) certification is desired but not required

Skills/Competencies

  • Proficiency in utilizing CAD and Microsoft Office software packages associated with engineering

Pay

Salary Range: $103,500.00 - $181,100.00
