Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for a Principal Marine Structural Engineer to assist in growing our Waterfront Improvement practice, to be based in our Seattle, WA; Sacramento, CA; Santa Barbara, CA; Los Angeles, CA; San Diego, CA offices or any of our other U.S based offices. The opportunity to work a hybrid schedule or remotely from your home office may be available at the discretion of the Company.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Provide subject matter expertise (SME) for structural design and engineering of marine infrastructure projects such as bulkheads, wharfs, bridge pilings, harbors, docks, breakwaters, and shoreline protection systems.
  • Conduct structural analysis, modeling, and design of marine and waterfront structures to ensure stability, safety, and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Support project teams with technical input during all project phases, including planning, design, construction, and maintenance.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop innovative and sustainable solutions tailored to client needs.
  • Aid in preparing technical proposals, cost estimates, and project schedules to support business development efforts.
  • Lead and review structural calculations, technical drawings, and specifications to maintain quality standards.
  • Mentor and train junior engineers, fostering technical growth and professional development.
  • Stay updated on advancements in marine engineering practices, tools, and technologies, integrating best practices into project work.
  • Engage with clients and stakeholders to present design concepts, technical reports, and project updates.
  • Drive personal, company, and rental vehicles to client or company project or office sites, and other business locations, as needed.
  • Overnight travel: 30 - 50%

Education and Licensure

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil, structural, marine engineering, or related field. (required)
  • Advanced degree. (preferred)
  • Professional Engineer license. (required)
  • Structural Engineering (SE) license. (preferred)

Skills, Experience And Qualifications

  • At least 10 years (15+ years preferred) of direct engineering experience in marine structural engineering, with emphasis in projects such as bulkheads, docks, harbors, and shoreline protection systems or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
  • Proficiency in structural analysis and design software, such as SAP2000, STAAD.Pro, or LARSA. (required)
  • Strong understanding of materials used in marine environments, including steel, concrete, timber, and composites. (required)
  • Experience in wave, current, and load modeling as applied to marine structures. (required)
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and collaborate with cross-functional teams. (required)
  • Business development acumen, with experience supporting proposal writing, client presentations, and project bids. (preferred)
  • Regular field work and overnight travel. (required)
  • Current OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER training and refreshers. (preferred)
  • Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing may be required. (required)
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)

Potential Compensation Ranges

  • Minimum Salary: $149,330/year / Maximum Salary: $259,690 /year (Seattle, WA, Sacramento, CA, Santa Barbara, CA, San Diego, CA)
  • Minimum Salary: $156,115/year / Maximum Salary: $271,495 /year (Los Angeles, CA)
