On-siteEngineeringFull-time

Magnendo is developing robotic technology to make life-saving endovascular procedures faster, safer, and more accessible. By combining advanced robotics, magnetic navigation, and intelligent software, we aim to expand access to advanced stroke care worldwide.

Principal Software Engineer

  • Lead the architecture, design, and development of our core software infrastructure: OS selection and configuration, real-time orchestration, inter-process communication, and hardware support.
  • Evaluate and select an operating system configuration: for our high performance medical grade system, including multiprocessor or virtualization architecture definition as needed.
  • Select 3rd party frameworks and tooling: for real-time orchestration, inter-process communication, hardware support, and other key system functionality (e.g. ROS2, DDS, Qt, etc.).
  • Develop flexible and modular architecture and interfaces: allowing subsystem-by-subsystem migration from prototype to medical grade production software, including comprehensive unit and integration tests.
  • Build and maintain robust logging, record, and playback systems: for debugging, verification, and root-cause investigation.
  • Implement cybersecurity best practices: and define and document a highly automated CI/CD pipeline ensuring determinism and code quality, including static analysis and unit and integration testing.
  • Define and document a software development process: combining best practices of modern high reliability software development with a regulatory v-model framework.
  • Collaborate with Systems Engineers: to define and review requirements, test plans, and acceptance criteria; support risk analysis, design reviews, and root-cause investigations.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance: to other engineers in your domain.

Requirements

  • 9+ years of experience in systems and infrastructure software engineering with demonstrated ability to deliver the types of software described above.
  • Experienced with production software development in an environment with high reliability requirements, preferably under a regulatory regime.
  • Deeply knowledgeable about Linux/OS fundamentals and how distributions are controlled and maintained.
  • Experienced in evaluating, selecting, and packaging 3rd party frameworks and libraries.
  • Experienced with systems infrastructure for high-performance edge compute platforms, CPU/GPU interfaces, memory access and alignment, caching, latency etc.
  • Strong proficiency in C++ and/or Python, with a firm grasp of real-time performance considerations, memory management, and software design patterns.
  • Proficient in git workflows, automations, and CI/CD pipelines and tooling.
  • Able to clearly convey complex tradeoffs to cross-functional teams and external partners.

Bonus Points

  • Experience in the medical device industry, ideally with interventional or robotic systems, and working knowledge of medical device software requirements.
  • Experience developing software under a regulatory framework such as medical device (e.g., IEC 62304, IEC 60601), functional safety (IEC 61508, ISO 13849), or automotive (ISO 26262).
  • Experience with robotics or autonomous systems.
  • Experience with RTOS/embedded systems.
  • Experience with packaging in source-based Linux distributions (Yocto, Gentoo, etc.).
