About the Role

The Effector Subsystems Products (ESP) department develops electronics for weapon system products, engaging from the outset of weapon system development through deployment. Our products are deployed globally in ground, exoatmospheric, and space environments. As a Principal FPGA Engineer, you will architect, design, and document deliverable FPGA embedded processing solutions at Raytheon.

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver production-quality FPGA releases from initial proof of concept to production.
  • Collaborate with systems, hardware, and software engineers, as well as program management, to ensure product success.
  • Lead FPGA-based systems architecture and designs, including determination of parts and interfaces.
  • Design and code in VHDL for reliability, maintainability, reviewability, and reusability.
  • Verify designs using self-checking techniques with directed and constrained random tests, tracking functional and code coverage.
  • Solve complex, undefined problems where information is difficult to obtain.
  • Create complete documentation, including requirements, verification plans, user’s guides, and configuration management.
  • Provide design support from requirements definition through integration and test.
  • Translate system-level requirements into FPGA requirements.
  • Perform and participate in internal and external technical reviews.
  • Independently drive projects and execute to program schedules and budget.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM).
  • Minimum 8 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of experience in at least 6 of the following categories:
    • Digital Design and HDL coding targeting configurable logic devices.
    • Delivering FPGA solutions to system-level applications.
    • Experience with FPGA devices and tools from vendors such as Altera, Lattice, Microchip, or AMD.
    • Integration and debug of electronics using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters, etc.
    • FPGA timing constraints and timing closure.
    • Digital simulation using tools such as Questa, RivieraPro, or similar.
    • Industry-standard interfaces and protocols (e.g., AXI, PCIe, SPI, I2C).
    • Python or C programming.
    • Working with Intellectual Property (IP) Cores.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Digital Design Knowledge & Principles.
  • Radar processing techniques.
  • Image processing techniques for visual and infrared sensors.
  • Gigabit serial interfaces and multi-gigabit transceivers (MGTs).
  • Embedded processor and System on a Chip (SoC) development for FPGA devices.
  • Embedded systems design using Microblaze, Nios, or ARM processors.
  • FPGA design experience in a Linux-based development environment.
  • Knowledge of git and GitHub.
  • Knowledge of encryption/decryption standards (e.g., AES, RSA, ECC).
  • Cross-discipline knowledge (e.g., software, systems, modeling).
  • Verification utilizing hardware platforms.
  • System-level FPGA requirements specification and architecture development.
  • Experience in a leadership role (e.g., team lead, technical lead, project lead).
  • MS or Ph.D. in Electrical or Computer Engineering.

Pay

The salary range for this role is $107,500 – $204,500 USD.
