Principal Engineer – Transmission Scenario Planning - External Analysis Specialist
About the role
We are seeking a highly skilled and influential engineer to lead studies, plans, and designs for Exelon's electric generation, transmission, distribution, gas, and telecommunications facilities/systems. This role requires a Master's degree in Engineering or a Professional Engineer license, along with extensive experience in specialized engineering areas.
Responsibilities
- Evaluates complex technical issues and recommends actions or programs for resolution.
- Leads the implementation of large specialized technical projects and teams.
- Provides consultation and training on highly complex and unique technical areas.
- Participates in technical and industry societies and committees.
- Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to develop transmission system upgrade plans.
- Supports NERC compliance efforts in relation to transmission planning activities.
- Identifies new analyses, technologies, and processes to improve efficiency.
- Applies engineering expertise on a high-performance engineering team to support detailed analyses.
- Supports advanced power system modeling and simulation activities.
- Applies technical knowledge to promote a safe work environment and enhance customer satisfaction.
- Supports various transmission planning functions that align with requirements and processes of PJM, MISO, SPP, and other North American ISOs/RTOs.
Requirements
- Master of Science degree in Engineering or Licensed Professional Engineer.
- Ability to analyze and interpret complex electrical and mechanical systems.
- Knowledge and ability to apply problem-solving approaches and engineering theory.
- Knowledge of engineering designs, principles, and practices.
- 8+ years of experience in specific areas of engineering and recognized industry expert.
- Advanced knowledge and experience with regulations, guides, standards, codes, methods, practices, and advanced engineering principles.
- Advanced knowledge of latest technologies necessary to perform a variety of specialized unique or complex assignments for various installation types of services.
- Experience in competitive transmission development and regulatory activities.
- Strong Transmission Planning experience working with PJM, MISO, SPP, or other North American ISO/RTO planning processes.
Qualifications
- Strong teamwork, interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate with all management levels.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Advanced steady-state power-flow experience, including model-building, contingency analysis, transfer/voltage stability analysis, and short circuit analysis.
- Experience in competitive transmission development and regulatory activities.
- Strong Transmission Planning experience working with PJM, MISO, SPP, or other North American ISO/RTO planning processes.
