This position is located onsite in Melbourne, FL and requires 100% on-site work. Relocation assistance may be available. A Secret clearance is required to start, with the ability to transfer and maintain the final adjudicated US Government clearance. Travel is expected at 10% of the time. This opportunity is contingent on program funding; start dates are determined after funding confirmation.

About the Role

Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems has an opening for a Principal Systems Engineer - Reliability to join our team. You will work in the Product Support organization performing System Reliability & Maintainability (R&M) Engineering Analysis. The role focuses on establishing, monitoring, and verifying subsystem R&M performance requirements for design changes and new development efforts to ensure program requirements are met. Primary responsibilities include reliability, maintainability, and testability.

Responsibilities

  • Perform R&M allocations and predictions
  • Develop Failure Modes Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA)
  • Perform Built-In Test (BIT) testability analysis
  • Develop mission reliability analysis
  • Support teams in investigating issues
  • Conduct Fault Tree Analysis (FTA)
  • Work with Failure Reporting Analysis and Corrective Action System (FRACAS)
  • Perform maintainability demonstrations
  • Conduct Highly Accelerated Life Testing (HALT), Reliability Growth Testing (RGT), and Environmental Stress Screening (ESS)
  • Liaise with Integrated Product Teams (IPT) and suppliers for R&M of assigned subsystems
  • Collaborate with system engineers, hardware designers, and integration/test engineers
  • Develop, coordinate, and conduct technical reliability studies and evaluations of engineering design concepts and design of experiments (DOE)
  • Recommend design or test methods and statistical process control procedures to achieve required product reliability levels
  • Compile and analyze performance reports and process control statistics; investigate relevant variables affecting product and processes
  • Ensure corrective measures meet acceptable reliability standards
  • Analyze preliminary plans and develop reliability engineering programs to meet company, customer, and governmental agency objectives
  • Develop mathematical models to identify units, batches, or processes posing excessive failure risks
  • Propose design or formulation changes to improve system and/or process reliability
  • Determine units and/or batches requiring environmental testing and specify minimum sample sizes for statistically valid data

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university
  • For Principal Level: 5 years of engineering experience with a Bachelor’s, 3 years with a Master’s, or 1 year with a PhD
  • For Sr Principal Level: 8 years of engineering experience with a Bachelor’s, 6 years with a Master’s, or 1 year with a PhD
  • Experience in the Reliability and Maintainability discipline
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a US Government Secret clearance and any required program access within a reasonable period

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Electrical Engineering or a similar field
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the Reliability and Maintainability discipline
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and ability to interface with all levels of employees and management
  • Active, in-scope US Government Top Secret or SCI clearance

Pay

  • Principal Level Salary Range: $98,400.00 - $147,600.00
  • Sr Principal Level Salary Range: $122,800.00 - $184,200.00

Base salary offers consider factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s experience, education, skills, and current market conditions. Employees may also be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and discretionary bonuses in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses reward individual contributions and allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
