About the role

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a Principal Systems Engineer (Level 3) to support our Combat Electromagnetic Environment Simulation (CEESIM) program(s). This position is based in Buffalo, NY, and offers the opportunity to join a qualified, diverse team.

Clearance & Travel

Must have an ACTIVE Secret Clearance in order to be considered. Travel required: approximately 15% of the time.

Responsibilities

  • Support system requirements development, management, analysis, and traceability, translating customer requirements and CONOPS into systems requirements and allocating to lower-level requirements.
  • Provide systems engineering support as part of a troubleshooting team with systems matter expertise across RF, software, digital, mechanical, and manufacturing.
  • Perform Failure Trend Analysis, Root Cause and Corrective Action investigations on RF/electronics sensor systems with exposure to hardware, software, and project-specific applications.
  • Conduct data mining for failure databases (e.g., TipQA) and Acceptance Test Procedure (ATP) data variability analysis.
  • Perform functional analysis and systems trade studies for technical solutions spanning concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, and maintenance.
  • Assist with generation and revision of system/subsystem requirements documents, interface documents, and test/verification documents.
  • Support system/subsystem integration, test, and requirements verification activities.
  • Support systems engineering metrics and technical performance measurement tracking.
  • Support preparation of system engineering materials for reviews including System Requirements Review, System Functional Review, Preliminary Design Review, Critical Design Review, System Verification Review, Test Readiness Review, and others as needed.
  • Generate and present data analysis results for internal and external meetings.
  • Interface with inter-organizational management and external customers to communicate technical briefings and program status.
  • Support program management to ensure cost and schedule objectives are met, including Earned Value Management System (EVMS) tracking and Control Account Management (CAM) activities.
  • Partner with Global Supply Chain to manage technical, schedule, cost, and quality of simulator components from subcontractors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in an Engineering discipline and a minimum of five (5) years of engineering experience with exposure to requirements development and verification activities; or Master of Science in an Engineering discipline and a minimum of three (3) years of engineering experience with exposure to requirements development, verification, and production activities.
  • Proven experience communicating with peers in a detailed, process-oriented fashion.
  • Demonstrated experience providing solutions to a variety of technical problems under general supervision.
  • Experience with requirements decomposition and requirements management.
  • Experience working with cross-functional integrated product teams.
  • Exposure to systems engineering lifecycle processes for system development.
  • Experience with engineering requirements management tools such as DOORS.
  • Experience in configuration management and product lifecycle management tools.
  • Experience in root cause correction and corrective action processes and execution.
  • Experience in technical documentation.
  • Understanding of Electronic Warfare simulation of threat radar systems.
  • Knowledge of radar signal characteristics.
  • Expertise with MS Office tool suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and demonstrated ability to project plan and execute.
  • Demonstrated independent planning, organization, and ability to work in cross-functional teams with a customer focus.
  • Proven ability to manage Contract Data Requirements List (CDRL) delivery from inception to completion, including technical expertise, alignment with architecture, and drafting deliverable documents.
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance at time of application.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience operating a CEESIM EW simulator.
  • Experience with technical writing for specifications and technical baseline documentation.
  • Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) modeling.
  • Familiarity with radar systems and operations.
  • Experience working in the defense industry or with weapon systems.

Pay

Primary Level Salary Range: $103,600.00 – $155,400.00. Northrop Grumman considers factors such as scope, responsibilities, experience, education, skills, and market conditions when determining base salary offers. Additional compensation may include overtime, shift differential, discretionary bonus, and annual bonuses.
