Principal Engineer - Substation

About the role

This is a 1-year contract (W-2) remote position with some travel required within North America. You will oversee assigned substation projects from conception through construction and commissioning, reporting to the onsite Manager.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with project stakeholders to secure substation sites, support engineering updates, data, and permits for design and construction.
• Provide training, due diligence, and technical oversight of external engineers of record (EOR) to ensure compliance with interconnection agreements, project specifications, and industry codes (IEEE, NESC, ASCE).
• Collaborate with internal groups to ensure successful execution of substation projects.
• Represent Engineering & Construction (E&C) interests in meetings, presenting progress, issues, and risk mitigation to management.
• Support Transmission Services in reviewing interconnection documentation (system impact studies, facility studies, reactive/harmonic studies) and ensure compliance with ISO and Transmission Owner requirements.
• Assist with substation project SOW creation, review, approval, and preparation of shopping carts for engineering services and materials.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil/Structural Engineering (preferred).
• 7+ years of experience in substation design and engineering for High Voltage projects.
• Project Engineering or Project Management experience (PMP or P.E. in a related discipline is helpful).

Pay

Base salary range: $70.00/hr to $94.00/hr, dependent on experience, qualifications, and skills.
