Principal Engineer– Grid Modeling and Compliance

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform Electro-magnetic Transient (EMT) Studies such as sub synchronous resonance (SSR), control interaction (SSCI), ferro-resonance, temporary overvoltage (TOV), switching overvoltage (SOV), transient recovery voltage (TRV), power quality (harmonic, and flicker), energization, etc.
  • Assist in developing and tuning models in collaboration with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to achieve desired performance requirement established in grid codes.
  • Produce and/or review technical reports and presentations and translate for an executive audience.
  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for PSCAD modeling and special studies.
  • Serve as a SME for transmission grid reliability, modeling and compliance.
  • Actively attend industry large load stakeholder meetings and drive proactive changes.
  • Stay up to date with assigned market changes in terms of NERC, FERC planning procedures, policy changes and developments.
  • Support interconnection model development and review of utility commissioned technical deliverables.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of NERC standards related to grid modeling.
  • Contribute to the team's research and innovation activities.
  • Support CHIL testing of BESS, Fuel cells, or any onsite generation technologies

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in power system modeling, analysis, and studies.
  • Master's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, preferably with a power systems focus.
  • 5+ years of recent experience developing PSCAD models for utility interconnections.
  • Experience with additional tools such as PSS/E, RSCAD, DIgSILENT, PowerFactory or similar platforms is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of applicable IEEE, IEC, CIGRE, utility, and industry standards.
  • Strong experience developing and validating generator, load, equipment, and inverter-based resource models.
  • Experience in performing controller hardware in loop testing (CHIL) with BESS, Fuel cells, and protective relays

Pay

Hiring Range in USD from: $114,600 - $234,600 per year. May be eligible for bonus, equity, and compensation deferral.

  • Paid time off: Flexible Vacation is provided to all eligible employees assigned to a salaried (non-overtime eligible) position. Accrued Vacation is provided to all other employees eligible for vacation benefits. For employees working at least 35 hours per week, the vacation accrual rate is 13 days annually for the first three years of employment and 18 days annually for subsequent years of employment. Vacation accrual is prorated for employees working between 20 and 34 hours per week. Employees working fewer than 20 hours per week are not eligible for vacation.
