About the Role

This position involves performing advanced power system studies and serving as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for grid reliability, modeling, and compliance. The role supports interconnection model development, industry stakeholder engagement, and research innovation in power systems.

Responsibilities

  • Perform Electro-magnetic Transient (EMT) Studies, including sub-synchronous resonance (SSR), control interaction (SSCI), ferro-resonance, temporary overvoltage (TOV), switching overvoltage (SOV), transient recovery voltage (TRV), power quality (harmonic and flicker), energization, and related analyses.
  • Assist in developing and tuning models in collaboration with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to meet grid code performance requirements.
  • Produce and review technical reports and presentations, translating complex findings for executive audiences.
  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for PSCAD modeling, special studies, and transmission grid reliability, modeling, and compliance.
  • Actively participate in industry stakeholder meetings and drive proactive changes in grid planning and policy.
  • Stay current with market changes, including NERC, FERC planning procedures, policy updates, and developments.
  • Support interconnection model development and review utility-commissioned technical deliverables.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of NERC standards related to grid modeling.
  • Contribute to the team’s research and innovation activities.
  • Support Controller Hardware-in-the-Loop (CHIL) testing of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), fuel cells, or other onsite generation technologies.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in power system modeling, analysis, and studies.
  • Master’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, preferably with a power systems focus.
  • 5+ years of recent experience developing PSCAD models for utility interconnections.
  • Experience with additional tools such as PSS/E, RSCAD, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, or similar platforms is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of applicable IEEE, IEC, CIGRE, utility, and industry standards.
  • Strong experience developing and validating generator, load, equipment, and inverter-based resource models.
  • Experience performing Controller Hardware-in-the-Loop (CHIL) testing with BESS, fuel cells, and protective relays.

Pay

Hiring range in the U.S.: $114,600 – $234,600 per year. Eligibility for bonus, equity, and compensation deferral programs.
