Principal Engineer, GDC Storage, Google Cloud
About the role
With Google Distributed Cloud (GDC), we are creating the industry’s leading private and hybrid cloud offering that brings our customers Google Cloud’s AI-led Services and Infrastructure on an on-premise platform that is simple, secure and scalable. GDC Storage includes all aspects of a large enterprise storage system - high performance block storage, shared file storage and large-scale object storage along with support for backup and restore functions. GDC is targeting large-scale deployments in highly secure and sovereign environments. Storage plays a critical role in these systems for data protection.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with peer tech leads in Google Distributed Cloud Edge Delivery (GDCE) to develop a strategic roadmap to remediate all reliability findings.
- Collaborate with a global team of engineers and product managers to execute making appropriate tradeoffs between architecture, time-to-market, and business goals.
- Drive systems and tools, and infrastructure strategic roadmap and development to improve the ability to scale GDC Storage.
- Lead the overall Storage end-to-end technical strategy for GDC.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, similar field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 15 years of experience in cloud computing (e.g., enterprise applications, infrastructure, storage, platforms and data).
- 10 years of experience building enterprise storage systems.
- Experience with private and public cloud design considerations in the areas of developer and operator productivity, virtualization, containers, high performance computing, data, security and config/policy automation.
- Experience providing technical guidance and working with teams to deliver services for internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Master's degree or PhD in in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience in designing and implementing large-scale filesystems or distributed storage systems.
- Experience leading product development of 2nd generation cloud products at scale.
- Experience with any of the following IaaS solutions: Kubernetes, system virtualization, on-premise or hybrid cloud computing, cloud identity and security system, cloud monitoring and logging, or local and cloud storage.
- Technical expertise in systems and software with the leadership skills needed to influence technical leaders across the company.

Pay
US: $307000 - $428000 (USD) + 30% bonus target + equity + benefits
