About the role
The incumbent will be responsible to develop, keep & maintain the building drawings database, this includes building and equipment drawings, Turn Over packages, equipment manuals & specifications, sequence of operations, will also be responsible that the building operates as per design & suggest & implement changes as needed. Will be the gate keeper and approve of any changes in conjunction with the rest of the AbbVie team.
Responsibilities
- Produces unique & cost-effective results. Establishes alternate use possibilities & incorporates flexibility; balances system costs with benefits provided; oversees design work of internal & external consultants,
- Creates/modified designs for intermediate problems. Integrates financial with technical data. Analyzes complex interdisciplinary problems & identifies their impact; establishes probabilities; draws conclusions reflecting broad business needs.
- Represents engineering on corporate task forces. Identifies full range of customer/client needs & proposes solutions to address them; makes alterations in products or services to better meet customer needs. Participates in establishing strategic plans & objectives, on administrative & operational matters & ensuring effective achievement of objectives.
- Works with outside vendors in preparation of plans, budgets and schedules facilities modifications including estimates, quotes, layout, contracts calibrations and maintenance requirements. Coordinate with outside vendors to complete inspections of construction and installation progress to ensure compliance with established specifications (including regulatory requirements from city, county, state, etc.).
- Manages engineering, maintenance, alteration & relocation of office/laboratory areas & equipment as well as space assignments & layout arrangements for new employees. Oversees the maintenance and monitoring of all building equipment including, but not limited to, HVAC, hot water boilers, chillers, cooling towers, emergency generator, transfer switches, building automation, sprinkler system, utilities, & plumbing and electrical. Interacts with vendors/contractors in handling routine requests
- Provides off-hours support during emergencies/disasters & projects requiring non-business hours supervision/coordination. Develops, implements, & manages HS&E policies/procedures, benchmarks safety programs & techniques to ensure compliance, injury prevention, & risk mitigation. Administers office, Utilities & laboratory safety & security plans & procedures, continually monitoring locations to ensure they remain safe/secure/well-maintained.
- In conjunction with HS&E Performs Injury and Illness investigations, root cause analysis, data trending, program audits & laboratory safety & compliance inspections. Investigates accidents to identify their causes & find ways to prevent recurrences. Investigates, prepares, and forwards, as required, reports on injuries to appropriate agencies. Ensures that all required written programs (e.g., hazard communication, contingency plan, etc.) are properly documented.
- Establishes budget and accurate spending projections, manages within capital and operating resources, & identifies significant capital spend requirements during budget preparation. Development of policies & procedures for the Facility, Operations & Engineering team; Communicates these to subordinates to ensure their compliance, utilizing proper tools & safety procedures.
- Manages & coordinates year-end shutdown to include preventative maintenance, major projects, & lab modifications. Responsible for long-range planning & delivery of multiple change programs on time including project performance, risk management, administration, financial management & issue resolution. Develop & report metrics for continuous improvement/maintenance of the facility. Manages all daily operations for facility, engineering, maintenance, & metrology. Other duties as assigned
- Provides mentorship & guidance to the IFM (integrated facility management) engineering team, this includes writing maintenance procedures & tracking KPIs.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in engineering, science, or closely related discipline is desired, or equivalent technical experience plus demonstrated competence, with a desired 6+ years of significant engineering and/or operational experience.
- Possesses a strong technical knowledge and application of concepts, practices, and procedures. Works on problems of complex scope where analysis of situations or data involves multiple competing factors.
- Demonstrates judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.
- Interacts well with diverse groups within engineering and maintains strong working relationships with internal and external collaborators
- Listens to and understands others' points of view and articulates tactfully and respectfully one's own perspective orally, in writing, and in presentations.
- Works well with other engineers in a collaborative, fast-paced goal-driven environment.
- Possesses interpersonal skills to negotiate and reconcile differences.
Preferred
- BS Engineering Degree in Biomedical, Chemical or Mechanical is highly desirable.
- 5+ years of experience in Large Capital Projects and Facility Upgrades, specializing in Clean Utility and HVAC Design is highly desirable.
- GMP experience in Pharmaceutical or Medical Device industry highly desirable.
- Experience with the following software is desirable: AutoCAD, Microsoft Project, Microsoft Excel, Maximo, Revit.
