Principal Engineer-Communication Systems
About the Role
We are seeking a Communications Systems Design Engineer with a strong background in communication theory and signal processing. The successful candidate will join our Wireless Systems Group in Irvine and, as a senior member of the team, will be responsible for the systems design and implementation of physical layer algorithms for low power Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Sub-GHz wireless products. You will work with a cross-functional global team in a collaborative environment and thrive on complex technical challenges while being personally motivated to provide the best solutions to challenging problems.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with RF/Analog, Digital, Validation, and Software teams for bringing-up, testing, and troubleshooting of test chips and SoCs.
- Simulate communication systems and participate in digital block design.
- Participate in RFIP design regarding block specs & controls.
- Design and simulate the physical layer of wireless communication systems.
- Develop system models for performance evaluation, optimization, and to guide design trade-offs.
- Work with the RF/Analog design team to develop module specifications.
- Work with the digital design team to implement algorithms and digital modules.
- Work with RF/Analog, digital, and validation teams to bring-up, test, and troubleshoot test chips and SoCs.
- Document and develop design and test plans.
- Bring up communication systems in the lab.
- Test and debug communication systems.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering with 8+ years of relevant experience in wireless PHY systems design and implementation.
- Strong background in signal processing and communication theory.
- Experience in MATLAB, C/C++, and fixed-point/cycle-true programming and simulation.
- Experience in Modem and digital front-end blocks design.
- Experience in IC design, RFIC calibration, and testing.
- Experience in Wi-Fi or Bluetooth PHY layer standard is a great advantage.
- A team player; able to identify and resolve technical and schedule issues with team members. Team management skills would be an advantage.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present technical materials effectively and produce good quality engineering documentation.

Pay
The annual base salary range for this position is $75,000-$232,000. Range is dependent on numerous factors including job location, skills, and experience. We offer a total compensation package that ranks among the best in the industry, consisting of competitive base pay, restricted stock units, and quarterly bonus payments.
