Principal Engineer
Job Overview
Employees in this role make decisions and recommendations having significant impact on extensive engineering and related activities for the company. This position negotiates critical and controversial issues with top level engineers and officers of other organizations and companies.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Demonstrates a high degree of creativity, foresight, and mature judgment in planning, organizing, and guiding extensive engineering programs and activities
- Manages one or more programs of complex diversity and scope which are of critical importance to overall company objectives
- Acts as a subject matter expert
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
- Knowledge of interconnection procedures as defined by ISO’s/Utilities/TOs across U.S.
- Experience with power system analysis tools including PSS/E, PSCAD, Aspen, TSAT and GE PSLF software.
- Experience with modeling data centers and traditional generation such as gas plants.
- Strong understanding of electrical engineering concepts such as power flow, stability, voltage regulation, reactive support etc.
- Strong organizational and communication skills

About the Role
This position will support engineering activities for data centers, generation and transmission projects within the Engineering and Construction department. Preferred candidate is responsible for providing power system analysis, steady-state and dynamic modeling, generation and transmission planning for all Gas, Wind, Solar, Battery Energy Storage and stand-alone transmission /substation projects within the Engineering and Construction group. Required skills include experience in power flow analysis, stability studies, voltage studies, technical analysis of disturbances, implementation of regulatory reliability standards, and coordination of reliability and economic studies with the Regional Transmission Operator. Finally, the preferred candidate will represent NextEra’s interest while interfacing with ISO’s/Utilities/Muni’s/Regulatory agencies to understand and meet the requirements for new interconnections.
