Position Summary
Based in Wilmington, MA, the Principal Electrical Engineer will play a critical role in shaping innovative power and electrical solutions from concept through production. In this highly visible position, you'll lead complex engineering initiatives across applied research, design, development, testing, manufacturing, and product documentation, helping bring cutting-edge technologies to market. You'll work directly with customers to understand their technical requirements, translate needs into effective engineering solutions, and influence product direction.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for the design and analysis of systems, products, and subsystems/circuits to specification, cost, budget, schedule, and quality goals.
- Diagnose issues of diverse scope with design, field performance, reliability and test yields of products and recommend/implement corrective actions to address.
- Assumes responsibility for the success of the product/system in the customers' applications and recommend/implement corrective actions as needed.
- Follows key engineering procedures in the Product Development Process and ECO process.
- Work with manufacturing locations and supply chain groups to implement cost reductions, manufacturability improvements, and quality improvements for existing products.
Work Environment
- Location: Wilmington, MA
- Works in a standard office environment or engineering lab
- Uses electronic equipment and can work with high voltage
- Domestic and international travel of up to 10%
- Interfaces with internal and external customers
- Onsite technical support at customer locations
Experience
- Proven professional skills as an experienced engineer with a full understanding of medical practices and company policies/procedures (10+ years of experience)
- Ability to solve complex technical problems independently
- Good verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to provide technical mentoring other team members
- Experience with influencing and negotiating in complex situations

- Power electronics design
- AC/DC and DC/DC switched mode power supply design
- Power Factor Correction design
- EMI and EMC design and resolution
- Magnetic Design
- RF Power Design
- Simulation Package Expertise
- Designing for Safety and Compliance (Medical background a plus)
- Understanding of firmware and coding
- Designing for thermals
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)
Compensation
As required by multiple state pay transparency laws, Advanced Energy provides a reasonable range of compensation for each job posting. Actual compensation is influenced by an array of factors including, but not limited to, skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. The range of starting pay for this role is $165,000 to $215,000 per year.
