BAE Systems is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to join our team in southern New Hampshire. Our mission, “We Protect Those Who Protect Us®,” drives us to develop first-of-its-kind technologies and equipment that safeguard air, land, and naval warfighters. Based at our southern NH campus, the Countermeasure & Electromagnetic Attack Solutions team delivers next-generation threat detection and countermeasure solutions, providing unparalleled electronic warfare capabilities to enhance mission survivability.
About the role
This role spans the full product lifecycle—business capture, development, production, testing, and sustaining—for a variety of complex defense products and technologies. You will collaborate closely with electrical, mechanical, software, firmware, and test engineers, as well as product managers and stakeholders, to develop cutting-edge solutions. We seek detail-oriented candidates with strong analytical skills and a passion for continuous improvement, who thrive in Agile hardware development environments. The ideal candidate will advocate for Agile practices, risk-reduction prototyping, and requirements-driven design and verification.
Responsibilities
- Design and troubleshoot digital, analog, mixed-signal, and power CCAs for military electronics/avionics equipment.
- Lead electrical engineering designs, development, integration/test, and production of complex and dynamic military systems.
- Participate in requirements development, technical trade studies, and evaluation of technology insertion/upgrades.
- Develop architectures for electronic hardware leveraging embedded processors, microcontrollers, and VHDL-based FPGAs/SoCs.
- Develop and execute test plans, including integration of test solutions, and provide detailed reports on test results.
- Mentor junior engineering talent through knowledge transfer.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 6+ years (or 4+ years with MS EE) of experience designing, testing, and troubleshooting high-reliability embedded systems.
- Demonstrated understanding of electrical principles, test methodologies, and advanced test equipment.
- Strong “hands-on” laboratory experience with instrumentation, equipment, and processes.
- Eligible to obtain a DOD Security Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Competence in digital/analog/mixed-signal electronics fundamentals and interface/communication standards.
- Experience with FPGA design; memory interfaces such as DDR, QSPI; data transfer protocols like PCIe, Ethernet, JESD 204, I2C, JTAG, MIL-STD-1553; and power supply (DC to DC) design.
- Proficiency with electrical engineering tools for design, schematic capture, and analysis.
- Experience designing mixed-signal CCAs.
- Experience using Cadence tools for printed board assembly (PBA, PCB) design.
- Familiarity with design, analysis, and manufacturing standards for complex multilayer rigid and rigid-flex CCAs.
- Knowledge of engineering development processes for the aero/defense industry, including designing and testing to MIL-STD-704 and MIL-STD-461.
- Agile hardware development experience.
- Control account management experience.
- Experience with LRIP/FRP, particularly in electronics manufacturing and test methodologies.
- Familiarity with AS9145-compliant processes.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Active DOD security clearance.
