BAE Systems is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to join our Countermeasure & Electromagnetic Attack Solutions team in Austin, Texas. We develop next-generation threat detection and countermeasure solutions that provide unparalleled electronic warfare capabilities to enhance mission survivability. This role spans the full product lifecycle—business capture, development, production, testing, and sustaining—for a variety of complex defense products and technologies.

About the role

You will collaborate closely with electrical, mechanical, software, firmware, and test engineers, as well as product managers and stakeholders, to develop high-reliability electronic solutions. The ideal candidate thrives in Agile hardware development environments, advocates for risk-reduction prototyping, and follows requirements-driven design and verification practices.

Responsibilities

  • Design and troubleshoot digital, analog, mixed-signal, and power circuit card assemblies (CCAs) for military electronics/avionics equipment.
  • Lead electrical engineering designs, development, integration/test, and production of complex and dynamic military systems.
  • Participate in requirements development, technical trade studies, and technology insertion/upgrade evaluations.
  • Develop architectures for electronic hardware leveraging embedded processors, microcontrollers, and VHDL-based FPGAs/SoCs.
  • Develop and execute test plans, including integration of test solutions, and provide detailed reports on test results.
  • Participate in new business capture activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 6+ years (or 4+ years with an MS in Electrical Engineering) of experience designing, testing, and troubleshooting high-reliability embedded systems.
  • Demonstrated understanding of electrical principles, test methodologies, and advanced test equipment.
  • Experience designing mixed-signal CCAs.
  • Strong “hands-on” laboratory experience with instrumentation, equipment, and processes.
  • Eligible to obtain a DOD Security Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Competence in digital/analog/mixed-signal electronics fundamentals and interface/communication standards.
  • Experience with FPGA design; memory interfaces such as DDR, QSPI; data transfer protocols including PCIe, Ethernet, JESD 204, I2C, JTAG, and MIL-STD-1553.
  • Experience with power supply (DC to DC) design.
  • Proficiency with electrical engineering tools for design, schematic capture, and analysis.
  • Experience using Cadence tools for printed board assembly (PBA, PCB) design.
  • Familiarity with design, analysis, and manufacturing standards for complex multilayer rigid and rigid-flex CCAs.
  • Knowledge of engineering development processes for the aero/defense industry, including designing and testing to MIL-STD-704 and MIL-STD-461.
  • Agile hardware development experience.
  • Exceptional ingenuity, creativity, and resourcefulness.
  • Control account management experience.
  • Experience with Low-Rate Initial Production (LRIP) / Full-Rate Production (FRP), including electronics manufacturing and test methodologies.
  • Familiarity with AS9145-compliant processes.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Active DOD security clearance.

Pay

Full-Time Salary Range: $118,095 – $200,762. Individual salaries are determined by factors including business considerations, local market conditions, internal equity, and candidate qualifications such as skills, education, and experience.
