Principal DevOps Engineer
About the role
As Octave continues to grow, we are looking for a Principal DevOps Engineer to work in Richardson, TX—Hybrid. This role identifies, analyzes, and resolves system design weaknesses, influences the shaping of future products by contributing to the framework used across multiple products or systems, and provides multi-layered technical expertise for next-generation initiatives. You will collaborate with development and operations teams to help create reliable and frequent releases for software and updates, including testing new features, identifying cloud-deployment impacts, building automation tools, standardizing technologies, and improving operational efficiency. You will act as a liaison between product development and cloud operations, test implemented designs, advise/document cloud-deployment impacts, develop and maintain tools that automate hardware or software product releases, write installation scripts and programs, and actively troubleshoot issues during testing. The position includes on-call responsibilities (mild, rarely called) and frequent but low-impact evening maintenance.
Responsibilities
- Identify, analyze, and resolve system design weaknesses
- Influence the shaping of future products by contributing to the framework used across multiple products or systems
- Provide multi-layered technical expertise for next-generation initiatives
- Collaborate with development and operations teams to create reliable and frequent releases for software and updates
- Test new features and identify solutions that may impact product cloud deployment
- Build automation tools, standardize technologies, and improve operational efficiency
- Act as a liaison between product development and cloud operations
- Test implemented designs and advise/document the impact for cloud deployment
- Develop, analyze, and maintain tools that support and automate processes for hardware or software product releases
- Write installation scripts and programs for product installation
- Actively troubleshoot issues during testing, catching and solving issues before deployment
Must-Have
- Microsoft Azure infrastructure (3+ years)
- Infrastructure-as-Code (any)
- CI/CD (actually built and maintained, not just used)
- Experience with Claude Code or Codex (active user of agentic coding tools)
- PowerShell
- Git
- Highly experienced in full SDLC (filtering vs. DevOps as a narrow engineering role)
- Willing and able to write lots of DevOps-relevant documentation as part of the role
