Principal Consultant - Utility Cost of Service/Rate Design Specialist
About the role
The Principal Consultant - Utility Cost of Service/Rate Design Specialist will provide cost of service studies, cost allocation, and rate design modeling and analysis for utilities across North America.
Responsibilities
- Provide cost of service studies, cost allocation analysis and rate design modeling and analysis for mainly gas and electric utilities across North America
- Create written reports and analyses on rate design and cost of service studies
- May provide written testimony or provide expert witness testimony on rate design and cost of service for utility clients filing rate cases with state public utility commissions
- Create written proposals for clients on project scope
- Provide project management and oversight for cost of service and rate design projects
- Occasional travel to client sites as needed, typically throughout the US and Canada
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree required, ideally in Economics, Math, Finance, Statistics, or Engineering
- Master’s Degree or MBA a plus
- 10+ years’ experience in rate design and cost of service studies, either at a consulting firm, at a utility or on a public utilities commission
- Strong knowledge of utility regulatory policies and practices, tariffs, rate cases and filings
- Experience with revenue requirements and cost of capital
- Experience writing or providing expert witness testimony for utility rate cases
- Willingness to travel to client sites as needed
- Very strong communication and presentation skills, including Microsoft Office suite
Qualifications
Depending on the level hired, the base salary for this role will typically fall between $128,000 to $191,000 plus annual incentive compensation bonus.
