Principal Cloud Architect
About the role
The Cloud Platform Engineering team operates as a strategic enabler for the enterprise, delivering a secure, scalable, and fully automated cloud foundation that supports mission-critical workloads across the organization.
Responsibilities
- Leads cross-functional teams to design, implement, and optimize Banner Health’s multi-cloud infrastructure across Azure, AWS, and OCI.
- Helps lead the development of Banner’s long-term cloud strategy, ensuring scalability, security, resiliency, and cost-effectiveness across the organization’s cloud systems.
- Works closely with the Cloud Platform Engineering & Operations and Network Operations departments, Digital Engineering and support stakeholders across departments to lead cloud adoption and migration, enhance cloud maturity, improve performance, implement best practices, and drive cloud-based innovation.
- Serves as a subject-matter expert and trusted advisor, providing guidance and working closely with IT partners and business units to ensure successful solution delivery on cloud platforms.
- Works at the intersection of Digital Transformation and Cloud Modernization to ensure that Banner’s cloud capabilities align with business needs and scale to meet future growth.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent level of education and experience.
- At least 15 years of software engineering, digital engineering and application modernization experience, including a minimum of 5 years of experience designing and developing cloud and microservices at scale.
- Must also have demonstratable relevant experience optimizing Kubernetes deployed workloads on cloud platform and experience with AI development tools.
- Proven experience with platform operating models and product-driven digital engineering.
- Hands-on experience designing and scaling digital applications on cloud platforms, preferably AWS and Azure.
- Experience with large-scale cloud migrations and modernization initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering disciplines (i.e., Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Systems, etc.).
- Professional level certifications on public cloud platforms (Google, AWS and Azure preferred).
- Experience in Healthcare Information Technology is strongly desired.
- Deep knowledge of at least one cloud provider between Google, AWS and Azure and working knowledge of other clouds.
- Experience with cloud cost optimization.
- Experience with specific tools and platforms: Coding / Scripting Languages: Java/J2EE, C#, Python, Ruby, Go; Software Development Frameworks: React, Angular, Spring/SpringBoot, .Net; Database: Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL; CI/CD & Version Control: GitLab, GitHub, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, Jenkins; Artifactory/Container Registries: JFrog, Nexus, Cloudsmith, GitHub Packages; Deployment Manager Container Platforms: Kubernetes, EKS, AKS, GKE, RKE, Docker Hub, ECR/ACR; Observability: Dynatrace, Splunk, CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, Datadog, Grafana; Security Tools: WIZ, Palo Alto, Tenable, CyberArk, Snyk, Qualys; Work Management: ServiceNow, JIRA, Confluence.
Skills
- Strategic and technical oversight in developing, managing, and optimizing multi-cloud environments (Azure, AWS, OCI).
- Leadership in cloud architecture and governance initiatives ensuring scalability and compliance.
- Designing, developing, and overseeing the implementation of service offerings for platform engineering.
- Providing thought leadership in cloud native technologies, DevOps, and platform engineering.
- Implementing and maintaining secure cloud connectivity solutions (AWS Direct Connect, Azure Express Route, Oracle Fastconnect or Google Cloud Interconnect).
- Aligning solutions with standards and best practices, working with cross-functional engineering and business teams.
- Collaborating with IT team to integrate cloud solutions with on-premises infrastructure that drives innovation.
- Maintaining comprehensive documentation, disaster recovery plans, and performing ongoing gap analysis to optimize cloud performance.
- Creating and maintaining cloud architecture diagrams.
- Developing and delivering proof of concepts.
- Contributing to developing the best internal practices and new, innovative, hands-on service offerings that are put into production.
- Designing and implementing automation tools to enable efficient cloud services deployment and meet business demands.
- Providing leadership and mentorship to cloud engineers, ensuring adherence to cloud best practices.

Pay
Estimated Pay Range: $75.22 - $125.36 / hour
Schedule
This is a remote position. In this role you would work Monday through Friday normal business hours and can be a remote position if you live in the following states only: AL, AK, AR, AZ, CA, CO, FL, GA, IA, ID, IN, KS, KY, LA, MD, MI, MN, MO, MS, NC, ND, NE, NH, NM, NV, NY, OH, OK, OR, PA, SC, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA, WI, WV & WY.
