Primary Care Physician

About the role

The Primary Care Physician serves as a practicing physician who is responsible for the overall management of patients enrolled for healthcare services provided by the Battle Creek VA Medical Center. Responsible for administrative tasks associated with clinic operations, provides leadership and direction to support staff assigned to their PACT (Patient Aligned Care Team).

Responsibilities

• Provides clinical examination, diagnosis, and treatment of acute and chronic diseases, preventive care, and coordination of care for a panel of primary care patients.
• Appropriate documentation of patient care in clinical records is expected.
• Refers to specialists when additional input and treatment outside of the scope of the physician's experience and training is required.
• Is responsible for monitoring PACT teamlet performance to assess adherence to VA standards, assure quality and effectiveness of care, and meet VA performance measures.
• Leads the team in assisting the patient advocate and administration in resolving patient concerns and inquiries.

Qualifications

• United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
• Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
• Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Previous experience as a Primary Care physician providing direct patient care.
• Board Eligibility or Board Certification by the American Board of Internal Medicine or Family Medicine is preferred.

Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting

Schedule

Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm. Hours may be extended based on the needs of the Medical Center and our Veterans.
